Will using a sunbed lighten my hair again. I feel it is just too dark?

Shampoo often, and don't use colour saving product. When using a dark colour over a blonde, the dark colour over-develops because the hair is so easy to colour.

The good thing is when colouring dark over light, the dark fades quickly. In about 2 weeks you should see a significant difference. Also, try using a little dish soap to wash your hair...

Don't use plain at peroxide you find in your medicine cabinet!!! I'm serious, it will make your hair break off! Get Manic Panic bleach, it's called something Lightning I think. I would suggest 40 Vol since your hair is so dark now. Leave it in for as long as it takes to turn as light as you want. KEEP AN EYE ON IT so it doesn't stay in for TOO long. But- keep in mind, it could take a while. I'd guestimate somewhere around an hour. Bleaching your hair will fry it no matter WHAT, but you can minimize the, er, friedness, with some good conditioner. I really like Nexxus brand conditioner (you can get it at CVS). After you bleach your hair, put a lot (a LOOOOT!) of this conditioner (or some other kind of leave-in conditioner, Anasazi mineral mask is another favorite of mine) for half an hour or so, and when you go in the shower to rinse it out, wash with shampoo and MORE conditioner. Also- it's really important to make sure you have proper shampoo that will keep the blonde from turning yellow or brassy (been there- it sucks.) Sally's Beauty Supply has Generic Brand shampoo made especially for that purpose- it comes in a plain white bottle with black lettering, and the actual shampoo is purple. It's pretty cheap but it works really well. Oh, and due to a recent mishap (or TRAIN WRECK) I had bleaching my hair, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH BLEACH TO COVER YOUR WHOLE HEAD!!! THIS IS VITAL!!! My friend was bleaching my hair a few days ago and she ran out, so now I look like a calico cat and it's extremely unattractive. But- I did all the conditioning things that I told you to do, so at least my ugly hair is nice and soft... And nice and blonde, in the parts she DID bleach, haha. Good luck! Make sure you have enough bleach! Condition well! Get good shampoo! (:

If the dark dye was the colour you were aiming for, it's too dark because lightened hair soaks up dye good. If you used permanent, it should fade some on its own, especially if you didn't fill it (I'm assuming you went from a lighter blonde to a medium brown or so). If you used a semi-permanent, it will likely some on its own fade, but not as much as the permanent. I doubt a sun bed will do much to lighten it.

Don't use colour protective products, and don't avoid oil treatments.

Fading suggestions: If it was recently dyed darker, soak your hair in extra virgin olive oil (not drippy, just completely coated) and let it sit for at least 4-6 hours--the longer the better, but any less than about 4 hours and it won't work as well. If you want a bit more omph, use a clarifying shampoo or dish soap to wash the oil out. If you use any dish soap, condition all your hair after, and let the conditioner sit a bit before washing it out.

no a sunbed is not the sun, it's just ultraviolet light. It is the bleaching effect of the sun that lightens hair. Don't use a sunbed unless you want to end up looking like Donatella Versace and have a face like a handbag. Stick to fake tans and if your hair is too dark try putting a reddish tint into it (Casting) to make it more bearable and let it grow out a bit before you stick yet more dye onto it.

I did this one time but, because I had so much hair, only half went brown. I was like a crossword puzzle - all black and white. It's fashionable now but not back in the day. I had to get a solvent to strip the colour from my hair, which went thro' various shades, especially orange, until it fixed. Two long years it took. Hope there are a few more products u can get now but I wouldn't think a sunbed is one of them. Good luck!

no, the sun bed will not lighten your hair. the more you wash it , the more the dye will come out. lemon or lime juice will lighten it a little, but i would wash with a really strong shampoo, usually the really cheap ones will work fine, and do it as often as you can. when washing just a few times a week the dye usually needs to be reapplied after 6 weeks. there are special shampoos out there to keep color in longer, make sure you don't get one of those.

My beautician told me that hot water makes the color fade. I recently put in red and purple streaks. These faded quickly when I started to wash my hair in the hottest water I can stand.
