I told my boss I had to take my mother-in-laws dog to a dogs home because it had bitten someone. Bearing in mind it was a Sunday and not very feasible. They seemed to believe me until they saw him in the car a few days later.

Don't know about most ridiculous excuse for taking day off. But I work part-time as a manger in a shop on sunday's, and this one girl was always late. And her excuse was always the same: I couldn't find a parking space. For someone to find it difficult to find a parking space first thing on a sunday (before most shoppers have arrived) in a small town centre in which there is a multi-storey car-park above the shopping centre must be pretty stupid to try and pull that one off-and yes she was stupid!! Thank god she has now gone!!

guy that worked for me once told me that he wouldn't be coming in because he had won the lottery.

He had two or three days off and then came back to work, still adamant that he had won it but (of course) him being the conscientious type couldn't leave us boys without his help.

Fair play to him there was never any disciplinary action taken.
And Kevin from Merthyr Tydfil... no, none of us believed you and hope you are having fun in your little fantasy world!

Jon from the same company once told us that he had cheated on his fiancee and was so devastated that he took about a week off. Turned out that that was a lie too lol some peeps eh?

In over 20 yrs, I have never called off of work with a made-up excuse ... I have too much respect for my co-workers to do that. I wouldn't want them to do that to me so I don't do it either. In fact, I have only called in sick less than 6 times in over 20 years. So, maybe 1 day ever 4 years or so I actually miss work due to illness.

Now ... some excuses I've heard:

- (late for work) ... my cat stepped on my alarm clock and turned it off.

- called off work @ 7:30pm Fri. for 5:00am shift on Saturday... Uhh, I just got a call from my (college) teacher and she has called an emergency class for tomorrow (SATURDAY). (Employee terminated for this excuse)

- called off work for Sat, Sun ... My grandparents and I are leaving on Fri after I get off work @ 11pm to drive from Chicago to Phoenix, Az to attend a weeding... I'll be back to work on Monday. (employee terminated for this excuse).

first 1. even "IF" that IS true, he shouldnt lend it 2 a "girl" because eventually u would have found out. i bet he thought of that before he did it so u wouldnt find out the truth. and 1 more question, if he was telling the truth, supposedly he is, then ask him y there r pics of a girl with no clothes, only in a towel or his bed sheets? u know he is lying, so dump the guy and find 1 that is good enough for u! u deserve better than that, so do it!!!

My friend managed to get a ticket for Wimbledon and asked her flat mate to `phone work and say she had pains in her abdomen and had been up all night. She had been watching the tennis for about two hours, when she did get severe abdominal pain, an ambulance took her to hospital where they removed her appendix ! We all said "That `ll teach you!"

I was SOOOO tired of people taking time off for their kids at work, leaving those of us who have chosen not to have kids to do all of their work. I needed time to interview workers to fix my leaking basement at my house, so I told my boss, with a straight face, that I had to take my house to the doctor as it had a severe cold and that my car had a soccer game at 3pm, so I could not make it in at all that day.
No comments were made.
I took the day off.
