Because glass has less porosity and does not allow the coke to penetrate the bottle, where plastic (a petroleum product) and coke do mix, albeit only a small amount, but it changes the taste.

The reason Coke (or any glass bottled soda) taste better than in a plastic/can container is because they use REAL sugar instead of the "high fructose corn syrup". Seriously! Look at the ingredients on a glass bottle soda & compare it to can/plastic.
So, it's not in your head. It's about the quality of the ingredients used.

the reason that coke tastes better in glass is because in the tin cans most people drink from the metal actually disolves in the drink its been proven as for the plastic i have no idea but as everyone else has said the glass is best because it keeps the drink colder longer then the plastic and tin

The answer is not in the container, but the bottling process itself. The syrup mix is richer in the glass bottles so that you will continue to buy them. try the sodas at room temperature and you will be able to taste the difference better.

Not sure why, but I agree, everything tastes better in a glass bottle. Plastic and cans leave a disgusting aftertaste.

My friend Jeremy won't drink Coke unless it's in a can--he swears it tastes better that way but I've never been able to prove it. I don't like drinking pop from cups because the way it works for me, once you take it out of the bottle it loses the fizz faster, and then it goes flat and tastes...absolutely nasty.

Because i think that plastic gives things a funky taste. Coke tastes best in a glass left in the freezer overnight.

Glass has higher viscosity than plastic and stays cold longer.
