Decorating Basement Rooms can be tricky. The most important thing to remember when decorating these rooms is lighting. Since the rooms get limited light in the basement you want to make sure that they are well lit. Since you don't want them to paint the walls you could hang very large cork or bulletin boards around the room. That way they could pin up posters, pictures, notes, pictures, and other teenage girl decor with a minimum of wall damage. Next, colourful duvet covers for the bed and lots of posh pillows in bright colours to liven up the room. And then on to those pesky acoustic tiles on the ceiling - Pick inexpensive fabric or bed sheets that match the colour/theme of the room. Carefully remove the tiles and wrap them in the fabric. Once you replace all the tiles you will marvel at how great it looks. ( I once covered all the ceiling tiles in a basement child's bedroom with cloud patterned fabric - it was so amazing and the child loved it). You are not limited to fabric on the tiles - you can also use craft paper or wallpaper that has not be prepasted. Good Luck and have the girls help you with the decorating! They will have such a sense of accomplishment and pride if you let them do alot of the work.

Hope this Helps!

You might want to reconsider the painting because that will be the least expensive thing they could do. Afterall, you can always paint them again for about $50 when they no longer live there. Or nice, cheap sheets would work. Use them as curtains for the whole wall by putting a rod through the hems. I don't think the ceiling's will matter is the rest of the room makes them feel comfy. Great question! Godloveya.

You could put up wallpaper. My cousin lives in the basement and her bedroom walls are this wallpaper but it's 'hard' wallpaper with little bumps on it. It's really easy to clean and it looks clean.
