The taliban were ignorant.As a buddhist I just laughed at their stupidity for wasting their bombs on the pieces of rocks.They were destroying their own heritage!

They viewed the statue as being a pagan idol. Idolatry is forbidden in the Koran. Hence the destruction of the statue was seen as protecting the people from spiritual deception.
If the country had been ruled by Christian fundamentalism or Orthodox Jews, the result would probably have been the same.

All Muslim countries had intervened to stop Taliban from doing that. Pakistan had sent a special embassy. It can only be answered by one who may have been close to the then ruling Taliban.

It is not ''the Muslims'' that did it, but the fanatical Taliban Muslims that did it. I do not think it is any different than fanatical Christians blowing up an abortion clinic. Crazies are crazies, no matter who they are.

our ancestors were followers of buddhism and hinduism too, now we are maintaining all their heritages.
come visit our country.
look at the beauty and grandness of our ancestors' temples. the buildings, the statues, those reliefs. we are very very proud as their descendants.

They did this because they saw it as false idols in the land of Islam.What they really did was destroy ancient history that we can never have back.
Any true Muslim will tell you they will perish in hell because they are not true Muslims.

Their teaching of "thou shall not kill" is different from ours; they have different foundational beliefs of what they can and can not do in the name of God; if they feel it is justified.
