A puppy this young, I would be VERY careful what products you use on him, Frontline is an excellent safe choice. Too many baths is a common problem at this age, and the skin stretching out from just growing can cause itchiness. Use a puppy shampoo with an oatmeal base when you do bathe, not more than once a week and only when he's stinky. A common mistake with Frontline is applying it right after a bath on a wet dog, it won't work well this way. There has to be a good coating of natural oils on the skin for it to work properly, at least 48 hours before or after bathing is best. And make sure you are using NAME BRAND Frontline, the look-alikes that Hartz and Sargent's makes are NOT the same and DO NOT work. PS: allergies ARE a common cause of itchiness, but allergies are rare in a dog this young. And Cocker Spaniels have a high occurence of skin and ear problems.

Could be an allergy. The vet can do a blood test (a little expensive but worth it because if it is it will only get worse). I had this with my dog and after ruling out the usual stuff (fleas, mites) the blood test showed that he had hay fever!!! Allergic to all sorts of trees and plants. They made up an inoculation specific to his needs with he had once every 4 days for a month, then every week...every 2 weeks...until eventually it went to a tiny amount once a month. He has been fine ever since.

If its not fleas it may be allergies which quite often poor diet is to blame you could try him on a holistic food with no additives etc like James well beloved or burns which are specially formulated for sensitive skins...

Don't forget at this time of year many people put their heating on and it can take a little while for their coats to adjust to the cold outside and heat inside..........(For instance if you bought him from a breeder that kept the litter ouside in kennels)

Are there any bald patches? Demodex (a naturally occurring mite, not to be confused with sebhorritic mange) mange often makes its first appearance in puppies at around this age if there are other stressors (being separated from its mother, food change, or even just a second round of shots). It'd recommend checking with your vet if it doesn't go away.

Mites could be the problem. Frontline won't tackle those, but Advocate will. Try it out. He's about the right age for them, and if you don't treat, it can lead to sarcoptic mange.

I used a cotton ball with a sprint of rubbing alcohol on the cotton ball. as quickly as I sparkling the ears, I verify I conceal the ear tunnel and in basic terms do the ear flap and uncovered ear. I do this for all 3 of my dogs each few weeks. I additionally take them to the vet groomer each 3 months for an entire cleansing.
