I personally reject the notion of a God that expects us to believe a religion that has obvious flaws, without revealing himself directly to us.

The Catholic Church oppreses women, condones pedophilia by priests, campaigns against condom use, even as AIDS spreads.
They also change their mind every few hundred years about whether Jesus was divine, Mary was a virgin, etc...

Why would God not reveal himself directly to us, so that all of us can be saved? Are we really supposed to follow the church I just mentioned? Would God really expect us to with all the hypocracy?

That's mainly Catholic beliefs. Where I come from, Protestant denominations treat women as equals, immediately fire pastors that were stupid enough to do that stuff and the like.

What you have stated is sufficinet to prove ha it is man who created god after his image . God does not require an agent to contact his cretion as he is not a business man .The catholic proests either know fully well that ther eis no God or the God hey beliee in was either gay or a philanderer. oher wisethey would not dare to commit the sins of child molestation and sodomy and rape in the churches, which the ordinary man believes , is the temple of God . The esablishment also condones such sins and so one is inclined o belive thatno one in the catholic church is an exception. If really hee is a god , i9t is he priests who commit the sexual immoral ofencesin he church who wouold go to hell and those who condine it would also be consigned to the worst hell. Any how such priests would kill christianity all over the world soon.and expise the gilly of the religions. It is chritianity that is to besaved now and not the ordinary and innocent men. man soes not need a religion to be saved ; but a good conduct only.

Here, here! But whose saying the catholic religion is of God or that God approves of it. For all the points you mentioned and a many more it is obvious that God does not approve of it. Glad to finally hear someone mention how they change their doctrine every few hundred years. That always irked me because that's what they do. But then they want you to forget that they ever tortured and murdered Christians in the midevil times or made people have to pay indulgences to the church (that is, they had to pay money to get their loved ones out of hell) or purgatory, that's a good one. It totally negates what Christ did on the cross because they say it is a prison place you go to pay for your sins. So why did Jesus die if we pay for them after we die? I have asked these things of catholics on this site and gotten many thumbs down and insults from them. They just deny that any of it happened or that their church really condones Mary worship, the worship of saints and idols and all the many things they do. I can't believe how far they go to defend it when it is so clearly a false religion. Thanks for posting that.

My answer to you will be long because this is such a serious subject. Pls bear with me.

I know the Church is greatly flawed but it is staffed by humans who are sinful by nature. The Church doesn't condone pedophilia even tho so many of our bishops tried to sweep it under the rug. It comforts me to know that God will hold them to a higher standard & consequently will deal with them more harshly.

I am a woman who does not feel oppressed by the Church even tho I would prefer to see women clergy, bishops, etc. I think the Church would be the better for it.

The Church has never once changed its mind re the divinity of Jesus or the virginity of Mary. It hasn't changed its mind in anything pertaining to matters of faith or morals. Any changes, e.g. altar facing congregants, eating meat on Fridays or not, going to Mass on Saturdays or Sundays, are not matters of faith or morals.

God has already revealed himself to all christians -- directly to those who were fortunate enough to have lived in his time and to the rest of us through the bible.

Although the Catholic Church has flaws so do other religions. But the Catholic Church and the other major religions do not fall apart when one (or many) of its leaders do. When a preacher or priest is removed from its ministry the parish survives.

But I know how you feel. I left the Church for my own reasons & didn't return until decades later. In the meantime I went to other churches but always felt that something was missing (& it was really interesting to me to hear the ministers talk about the Catholic church derogatorily...something I've never heard done in the Catholic church about any other church). So I finally returned to the place I've always known I've belonged.

Here's why I think you should remain, or someday return to, the Catholic Church. The Church really is the one, true church. There were no other chrisitian churches until the Protestant Reformation. We are the closest to what Jesus and the apostles taught. St Peter was our first leader. When it comes to matters of faith and morals we remain faithful to their teachings. We have not made changes in the bible to delete what we don't agree with (which is why our bible is different from protestant bibles). We do not change in these matters to reflect changes in society or culture & I believe that is as it should be. Neither do the Anglicans (Espiscopalians in America) or the Orthodox churches who are so close to us that we are permitted to receive sacraments from them in absence of a Catholic church).

When I go to Church now I go to listen to what Jesus has said to us through the gospels and epistles & to words of the Mass itself which is so beautiful & I become peaceful. I go to accept the word of God.
And I hope that someday you will be able to reach the same point in your life.

Keep in mind the following:

The religion is an imperfect interpretation of god's wishes, the bible is obsolete and flawed, and the real kicker is - GOD DOESN'T CARE. Seriously. He's dead. He's not sitting up there watching to see if we suffer through all of this. The world doesn't exist to test us. We're just kind of like a zit on the a.ss of the universe. We're an accidental side effect and god doesn't give a sht.

There you have it.

Well though a compelling argument your questions are easily answered. Even in the Bible it is shown that there was corruption in the church. Catholiscism is not the only choice for following Christian beliefs anyway. But for one moment let's just pretend that it is. Do you not think it much to expect the people in the church to be perfect? And have you ever condsidered that maybe it is not the religion that is corrupt but the people that we humans who are corrupt ourselves by birth and have strayed away from the path of God and chosen the wrong people to lead us in our religous journeys

you really shouldn't be asking the c.a.'s this question, then you'll get nothing but a barrage of self-righteousness. they speak out of their anuses as if they KNOW what God intends or is meaning to do (it's in the bible! it's in the bible!). those apes are the last ones God would reveal Himself to; He does not like these dolts.

if you need a sign or a revelation, ask God directly. I don't think He's into performing live for a large audience. He can be very exclusive, like barbra sterisand. hehehe...

The fact that you can distinguish truth from falsehood, and recognize hypocrisy, as you clearly demonstrate, already shows the Christlike drive in your heart, mind and conscience that links your soul to the Kingdom of God and saves you from falling victim to human ignorance that leads to destruction.

You are already living proof that God's will is greater than these false things that obviously cannot hold you back from recognizing truth. You are already living day to day with this hypocrisy infecting the planet and all human institutions, not just the Catholic Church; since all people are flawed, collectively our institutions will be more so. So your dominating will to survive and to demand the truth is proof in itself of God's presence in your life.

Note: Although the human situation looks bleak, please do not despair. The point of Christ's sacrifice on the cross was to break through the false conditions keeping humanity in a state of corruption. So by accepting divine forgiveness in Christ, this allows God's will to intervene and to bring correction and reconciliation in the spirit of truth and love which is incarnated in Christ and all who believe and join in his spirit. It is the spirit of true charity which forgives in order that God may correct the things we cannot. All people need this forgiveness, not just the church. The states have also been corrupted by money and greed for power. So faith in Christ transcends all that, and allows divine grace to step in. That faith that love and truth are greater than fear and ignorance is the only thing that keeps humanity going. So there is constant proof of God in life itself; otherwise, we'd all be dead by now.

Dear holy flus,

I do not want to frustrate you dear friend, but the "church" could never save anyone! The only One who can save you is the Lord Jesus Christ, God. Undoubtedly you have listened to a "false gospel" that the Lord warned us about in Galatians 1. First, there is absolutely NOTHING one can do to become saved. It is a wonder that God would save any of us because we are ALL rebels and have broken God's laws. Man was created in the image and likeness of God and so we are accountable to Him. The penalty for breaking any of God's commandments is eternal damnation, that is to go to hell for ever. However, the Lord in His great mercy and compassion decided to save some of these rebels and make them His children. But, because God is perfectly just, He could not allow these sinners to enter into heaven without paying for their sins. But this would mean that they would first have to spend eternity in hell before letting them into heaven. I think you can see the problem. So the Lord took on the form of man and became the sin substitute for those He planned to save. Let me asure you that His death on the cross was not the payment! To make the payment Christ would have to endure the equivalent of spending eternity in hell. This actually began in the Garden of Gethsemanae when He began to throw Himself to the ground with great cries saying, Father, if it be possible let this cup pass from me but not my will but thine be done. The cup Christ was speaking of was the full cup of God's wrath. When Christ (and He was still very much alive) said, It is finished", the sin debt for His elect was paid in full.
The KJV Bible is the word of God. That is what you should study regarding all matters of doctrine and practice. The Bible clearly tells us that Mary was a virgin when Jesus was born but afterward she had other children with Joseph (Mark 6:3). The catholic church, as well as other denominations, have picked certain verses out of the Bible and built a false religion. Please read Revelation 18 beginning at verse 4.
If I can make a suggestion to you, I would recommend that you read the Bible slowly and prayerfully. Ask the Lord for some understanding and most of all for mercy. None of us deserves anything from the Lord but He knoweth our frame that we are dust.

I ask my catholic wife this same question.
Her reply.
I don't worship the priest, I worship God.
The church teaches me to be faithful.
I am personally smart enough to know, Most right from wrong. I don't understand why so many people worry about my salvation, If you don't buy into religion, Why don't you just read something else. There are lots of places on the computer and Lots of other subjects.. read about death and pain. surely you believe in death. read about that.

Jesus Himself is the sign and no other sign will be given, for some He is a sign to be rejected and for others He is the long awaited Messiah(sign) of God, we all have the same decision to make in this pilgrimage of life, some will make the choice for Christ others will not and this is the test of faith that is required by God of us.
