I would check the battery in the remote. If it's brand new, i'd take it to the dealer you bought it from.

Check the batteries in your handheld transmitter, if everything is fine there then check and make sure the antenna wire from the (usually) black box where all they wires are isn't touching any metal. If it is an Extended range model make sure the antenna is in the middle of the windshield below the visors

Try replacing the batteries if that doesnt work try to get a replacement remote.

it might not be the remote it could be i short in the transmitter
