I have been going through some difficult times lately. I feel sad and upset most of the time.

Nothing has worked out in my life and I feel like a total failure to the point where I did not want to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends that invited me. They tried to reach out to me and I pulled back and could not return the feelings.

I keep hoping that when I wake up in the morning one day I will feel strong and refreshed. I do plan to see a therapist, but don't know how much help that will be.

I am working at a job that I do not like but at least it gives me somewhere to go each day. My child is living with my ex-husband and missing me.

I don't feel like eating and really doing anything at all. I try meditating, but can only do it for 10 minutes or so. I do exercise as often as possible, but that has a limited effect.

When will this sad, blue feeling end? I don't like being depressed.

Well chances are your not going to just wake up one morning and feel better. You really need to talk to a doctor, either your family doctor or a psychiatrist. A therapist is good but your probably going to need medication to help you get thought this. Pulling away from family and friends is not healthy you need to socialize. Unless you see all of your concerns and problems ending for the better this is going to drag on until you help yourself. Make an appointment today and get on the road to recovery. Hope this helps. Good luck

You will probably deal with this for the rest of your life, to some extent. Either that, or you'll find a medication that helps. I have no idea whether or not trying to find a medication is a good idea. I suppose people would tend to say yes.

Sounds like you're making a good start with the exercise. Make sure your form is good and consider the state of your posture. Build your core strength! Also, for less money than a therapist, you could order a bottle of NO2 which i think is cheapest at www.mri-hq.com. Might be worth a shot. Gives me extra energy, which certainly can help mood. Here's my depression spam:

anyone who is depressive should take a good multivitamin most days with a meal. while you are at it take a calcium-magnesium-zinc pill, unless by some miracle you get enough calcium. (or you take a calcium-based antacid) also, get lots of beneficial fatty acids - particularly omega-3. take a couple grams of fish oil daily if you can't find enough dietary sources!

then try getting lots of sunlight. get some vigorous cardiovascular exercise as often as you can. practise good posture and learn a little about basic yoga postures and t'ai chi warmups. posture has a large impact on your sense of well-being.

eat a varied very high protein, high fiber diet low in saturated fats and refined carbs. shun additives and preservatives. you want fresh whole foods, not overcooked. eat leafy greens and colourful vegetables. eat tree nuts, eat fish, eat more fish, the more nutritious fruits (berries, etc.), herbs, legumes, and some grains. don't eat sweets or drink sweet/sour drinks. instead eat fruit. diet really really really matters. it has a slow cumulative effect. I know these diet changes can be inconvenient and costly. However, because the alternative occasionally involves hospitalization, and because the overall quality of your life will improve on this diet, I believe it is necessary.

stay hydrated. this can be a matter of simply avoiding certain foods that dehydrate you. try to get plenty of regular, restful sleep.

that's all that comes to mind. you might wanna check if you notice any effect from ginseng pills. If you use caffeine, try 3 weeks off. If that's no good, consider optimal dosage and timing relative to work/sleep.

I have been there and know how you feel. Don't wait, tell your doctor you are depressed, he or she can start you on an effective medication until you can see a therapist or psychiatrist. Don't be embarrassed, it is a very stressful world today and ALOT of people suffer from depression. Keep meditating, exercising and get the proper amount of sleep. Meds will have you feeling better usually within 3 weeks or less, don't give up. If you don't have insurance drugs program like "Partnership for prescription Assistance" can help you find programs to pay for your meds. Also, many mental health clinics will charge you on a "sliding" scale. Good Luck!

First thing you have passed is that you don't want to be depressed, good, now comes the point that what are u going to do about it. It is very easy to do say and do self pity that nothing has worked out for me. We always feel that others are happier to us and whatever bad has happened it is with us only. But if you come to India, you will change your views, you will be thankful for whatever god has given to u, here ppl are happy even if they cannot manage to earn enough to feed or clothe their children. Best you can do is share other's lives and try to give your time, that is the best gift you can give. Come out of your self, see how ppl are happy even with much much more problems than you. Help others, the feeling is so good that it will def. make you happier and useful.

At least you can be sure of one thing... your reactions are natural. Feeling depressed is OK as long as you're accepting of it.

If you suddenly rejected your feelings it could cause a mental breakdown.

You will help yourself to the degree you help yourself. 10 minutes of meditation isn't going to do much. You could change your whole approach to life radically... or not.

Depression is something that you will have to go to a doctor for, it isn't something that you will just wake up one day and it will be gone. i know that it is hard to deal with and it can ruin points in your everyday life, but if you go to see a therapist they will give you alot more help then you may think, but you have to want to get better for this to happen. you will do it when you are ready

Star eyes talk to someone new. Get a break from friends and family try to be fresh. You will have to find a new love too. If your were cared for you would be fine. I have been where you are now. It can get better but it will be worse first. Get someone to share with. Don't love only one person. That causes depression.if i write this then i want you to chat me. Just do it.

Try taking up a new hobby or going to a gym, when I started feeling depressed I found that the more I was physically active the less depressed I was.

Some people NEVER get over it. That's why you should talk to a good therapist and also see about going on medication. Life's too short to be miserable, so seek help immediately!
