Believe me, I'm not complaining. Just curious. It seems as though you see barefoot pics more and more these days, in everything from advertisements to high school yearbooks.

In response to hollowchocolateprius, the thing that got me interested in this topic was that my wife received some high school pictures of a few of the girls she managed in retail. Just about all of them included a barefoot pic. Poses like that weren't even available for the girls when I was in school. Sorry for bursting your bubble about the "jail bait" hysteria so prevalent these days.

The barefoot subject is humanized which breaks down barriers and lowers resistance to the message. If you have a cheap client you have a guy blow up his bar-b-que or a barefoot woman.

Advertisers send each other messages in their advertisements. There is a music composer for ads that has no musical training which clients pay to hire but the music sucks in my opinion. This music is a message to other agencies that their client had more money than sense.

Advertisers want a big paycheck and important clients and do grand pieces of art. When their desires are not met they get even by doing hackneyed work that is easy and pays the bills. When they get their wishes granted they brag about it inside the ads.

Why do they do this? You should read some psychology instead of yearbooks.Do you read yearbooks because you like jail bait or the compelling narrative?

Amateurs copy the barefoot thing because they think it is avant garde when it is really dryer lint.I would expect yearbooks to copy advertising because teenagers are helpless victims of advertising. Why do you think we have so many wars-stupid kids trapped in the narrative come back crippled and share the fantasy of a wheelchair.

I have the opposite opinion of the OP. I think families that dress in suits and ties, etc. for family portraits seem more "artificial" and "forced". I am always barefoot with jeans and t-shirt when I do studio photos with the kids. The first time I posed in a studio in jeans and t-shirt it was a little awkward since the photographer made me take off my shoes and socks. However, she was right to do so. My bare feet made the photos seem more casual, relaxed, laid back and "real". Plus I get a lot of compliments from others and requests for pictures for being a "relaxed" barefoot dad hanging with the little ones! In the end it is only a preference issue with no right or wrong answer.

I've noticed that more girls today go barefoot more. I went to my cousins graduation back in June, and there was about 8 to 10 girls that walked across the stage to get there diploma barefoot. After the ceremony, I probably saw 15 to 20 girls walking around barefoot. I think they feel sexy getting a couple of there senior pics barefoot. It seems to be the in thing, probably just a fad that will go away in the near future

As far as advertisements, I've noticed a trend away from photos that cut the subject off in favour of full-body shots, which would imply more attention to feet or footwear, resulting in an increase in bare feet for various reasons. As for high school photos, it's a relatively mild statement. I know of two high schools where each year a handful of students graduate with bare feet at the ceremony - they aren't really supposed to do it, but noone's ever been punished for it.

It's because advertising and people have realized feet sell, feet attract. Women feet that is.
And even more if they are clad in nylons. And women are less embarrassed nowadays to show them
because it's done on tv, everywhere. You always see women in barefeet or stocking feet now in movies.
It's beautiful but before people hid this fact, now they admit it, use it.

It may be that as in some other kinds of artwork, footwear tends to date the work, which may not be desired or necessary to the subject. Also, I imagine that covering the fetish thing may be in someones mind when they create an image. Those are my thoughts, and I hope they help.

So they don't show off the company logo and have the photo focus on the person.
