My mom is an asian woman and she is NOT less assertive at all. Infact, shes very assertive. But being less assertive to the man is a cultural thing. A few other cultural issues that are going to crop up are:

1. Her mom is either going to hate you or love you. Either way, she wont tell it to your face unless you are a real jerk to her daughter.

2. Her dad will probably like you or at least be cool with you (Asian dads are usually more relaxed)

3. Expect your girl to probably depend on you to be the man and the protector (Depending on how americanized she is).

4. Expect to be cutely charmed into doing things you never expect to do. (Im half asian...so it happens)

5. Expect to be eating a lot of asian food and dealing with a lot of asian outings where you are the only non-asian there. lol.

Their parties are usually awesome...they have more food than you can handle (at least that is what occured when I was forced to hang out with my moms friends and their family).

Depending on if she came from china or not REALLY depends on how she is going to act. If she is very americanized, Im sure she will have an asian edge, but american flair. If she is from china most of her life, she will defintely act different. Chinese people are also VERY blunt when they are honest. Expect that. They will probably make sure you never go hungry either...

Hope this helps some what.

You will find she is very faith-full,there are lots of different things you will find out as you go along are right they are not as assertive as us,but like things explained more fully, you did not say if she was born into the UK culture or had the influence of life in china?

had a chinese girlfriend. She was really shy.. but you have to except that... is her grasp of English good? If so, no worries, but learn some chinese, like 'you're beautiful' or 'you look nice' and I'm sure she will appreciate it... Also be romantic, and she may expect you to make quite a few of the decisions, but you will reap the rewards...
Best of luck

Buddhist background, little or no alcohol. About being assertive I'm not so sure. If they're anything like the japanese then they'll be more subservient than your Euro/US counterparts.

Good luck

If her parents are strict and they want her to marry a nice Chinese boy, then they may not like you.
