the success rate in the army is higher. More people fail at becoming marines.

The marines don't have the Apache helicopter, that was my reason, anyway. Overall, I think the army and the navy are a lot easier to get into. Right now, they will enlist almost anyone, as long as they can spell their name correctly. And as stated above, the marine's life probably is harder than the rest. Oh, and for the airforce, my take on why they won't accept a marine (don't know if that's true or not), is because the A.F. is the momst laid back and relaxed military service, and when a marine came aboard, who is use to kicking ***, it would be too subtle for him and drive him crazy.

A lot really depends on what the person wants to do.
The army is roughly 2-4 times the size of the Marines. That means that they can accept people with lower ASVAB scores, and with more waivers. They also have a larger number of jobs.
Plus they have a lot of "incentives" that the Marines and other services simply can't offer. For example, they own the Airborne School (ranger school, and many other schools). Becuase of this, they can offer airborne training to anybody, even if their MOS is being a cook or a truck driver. Because the other services only have a set number of slots to these schools they assign them to people who really need them, not as a way to get a "Merit Badge".
Because of this, "Airborne" soldiers of any kind are a dime a dozen. "Airborne" Marines are very rare (I only saw a handfull in my 10 years of service).
In the end, it all really boils down to personal choice. I joined the Marines because I wanted a true challenge, and a chance to travel. In my 10 years I traveled all over the US, in addition to spending time in Panama, Norway, and a year in Japan.

I have respect for the Marines but I know I dont have the discipline to be a Marine and thats why I joined the Navy. I wanted to join a branch and for me I was going to go Army or Navy. Some of my family have been Army and some have been Navy but none have been Marines. There are a few other factors but I know I wouldnt have cut it as a Marine.

People that choose the Army over the Marines probably feel like they couldn't handle the training. I chose the Navy myself. I figured that I'd get more training that could someday translate to a real-world job in the Navy than in the Army or Marines. I'm also a fan of the ocean. Oh yeah, I'm also pretty sure I'd have a bit of trouble with Marine training.

If your in the Army I am sorry. I was in the Air Force and it was common knowlege that people join the Army when they are not smart enough for the Air Force or Navy and tough enough for the Marines.
Marines say that Army stands for
Ain't Ready to be a Marine Yet.
Sorry just a little bit of humor.

The Marine Corps, as all Marines will tell you, has the lowest budget, the more antiquated equipment (as begets a nation of our weapons production capabilities), and the worst living conditions of all of the branches of our military. But the next thing they will tell you is that they have turned their low-*** budget, antiquated equipment, and worse living conditions into a kick-*** military unit that all of the branches of the military are jealous of. Do you know that the Air Force actually denies Marines enlistment because of their training? They use the excuse that Marines are crazy and they need cool heads in the Air Force...that's why the Marines have never lost a battle perhaps?

Because the Marines are the first ones to invade and to be put in harm's way.
For this reason more Marines are killed than any other member of the Armed Forces.
