unfortunately there is no real number. there was a principal pantheon often called the Great "Ennead" which is greek for "the nine" which was composed of the nine biggest deities - atum, shu, tefnut, geb, nut, osiris, isis, set, and nephthys. there were also other minor enneads but not so important is the great ennead. there was other gods, very many, and often some of them were known in only certain localities, or certain gods may have been the patron gods of certain cities or towns. often blends of gods were considered gods - for example sometimes the gods amun and ra would be merged and considered another deity in their own right, called amun-ra. or perhaps isis (aset) and sekhmet might be merged into a new goddess called aset-sekhmet. the reason is because ancient egyptian religion generally saw the individual gods to actually be the personified qualities of the one force behind the universe. so while the number of deities could potentially be infinite, due to the countless merges and new gods popping up over time, there was really only one ultimate force behind the universe from which all the individual gods sprung forth.

Quit a few or at least 10 principal ones. Because when God was showing the people of Israel that their god's were false he caused 10 plagues. The main one was worship of the Nile river.
When it turned to blood the magic practiceing priests were able to duplicate it. Even the next one. think that was gnats.
But after the first two God stopped Satan from duplicating the plagues. Then there was sickness, nats, darkness, the yworshipped the Sun. Many pagan religions did that. In fact we still do that one today. December 25, the evergreen tree and lights was a hand down from sun worship.
They worshipped humans like some people still do with sports heros and movie stars. But he was the utimate ruler the Pharoah and he was supose to be God's representative on earth.
His first born was to take the throne from him.
When God killed his first born and by killing the first born in every family everyone was effected.
Some say that was cruel but remember pharoah's decree that all the male babies be thrown in the nile river and drowned of the Isrealites. They were getting to numerous.
