Get an attested copy of your birth certificate from the Registrar and apply to passport office from where it has been issued along with the application form (forms for miscellaneous service) or to the Indian mission if you are staying outside India.

These people who have answered your question annoy me; they actually think that the police care if you have a fake ID or a fake passport! So many friends of mine have been caught by the authorities and all they do is laugh and take it away - they care about murderers, not 17 year olds trying to have a good time. Maybe these people are all old and just can't remember that it's fun to break the rules sometimes as a teenager... I don't know how to change the date of birth on a passport in a way that looks authentic, but if you do figure it out then remember to change the numbers along the bottom row as well as the normal birth date at the top. Good luck!

It may be difficult to change date of birth in your passport. Either you may try at the time of renewal or discuss the matter with pass port authority in person, if you feel that change of date of birth is so urgent and necessary in the pass port itself. Also be prepared to face the questions from the Pass port officials as to how you have declared the earlier date of birth and on what basis that date of birth was given. Perhaps you may be aware that wrong declarations in such vital documents can lead you to very serious problems.

Go back to the embassy or office concerned , explain the problem and let them do it for you..or you will be charged of tampering with official documents, which is considered a criminal act.
