That should not be a reason to date someone. Sounds like he's trying to force a date out of you. On the other hand if you like him give it a go.

If he is your friend, he should not put you in this type of "or else" predicament. This only shows that he is the type of guy who will barter with you in a relationship to get his way. Not a good characteristic to have. If you really like him and he likes you, you can have a long distance relationship and see where that goes. Know right now that he will try to get his way on many different occasions by having you to compromise. If you fall for it this time, what makes you think he won't try it again and again. Think about it.
