Whether it is an educational show or not, TV time SHOULD be limited. There are a lot more things that a child could be doing then sitting in front of the TV becoming a couch potato. They should be active, doing more PRODUCTIVE THINGS. You are right, there are plenty of more interesting things they could and should be doing.
But, I wouldn't go on thinking that TV is totally a bad thing. There is some benefits when it comes to education and interest of the child. Four hours is a little much, especially when it is a nice sunny day!!!

I used to disagree with TV (so much!). My son is 21 months. My husband, of all people introduced him to Nick JR. He loves it. But, sometimes, he would watch too much. I have him back in daycare now, so TV is limited (he doesn't watch it unless it is cartoons.). He LOVES Spongebob Squarepants. If he is throwing a fit, flip it over to Nick, or pop in a DVD, and my son is as good as gold and has calmed down by the time it is over. And, yes, his room is Spongebob decor, and his wardrobe is Spogebob. it makes him laugh all the time. I love to hear him laugh. So, on that end, it is worth it. have to wait and see as he gets older. Will he get a TV in his room? HECK NO!!!! Not until YEARS from now!

well, when ur a stay at home mom! tv is ur savior! with all the cleaning, cooking, diaper changing you do, tv is the one thing u can rely on! tv helps children creat and imagination! my child learned to count to 12 from watching Dora!and with a little bit of help from me of course! i only let them watch educational programs, with an exception to a few shows here and there! my kids are (3 1/2 @ 1 1/2) there is nothign wrong with letting them watch tv, not hrs on end 24hrs a day 7 days aweek tho, but its ok to let them endulge in alittle bit of funa dn creativity!

well, it really deppends, e.g.: if the program they're watching is about..wildness or whatsover,,, then that is not worth it for a kid to watch tv 4 hrs a day.:) but, for kids watching educational shows, or cartoons that can help kids develop their grammar and knowledge, then that's worth it.:)

My son doesn't really watch t.v., he watches Thomas the tank engine. I only watch t.v. at night when the kids are in bed. I don't like him sitting in front of the t.v. all the time or even any of the time. I can give myself just a moment to myself during this, but I wouldn't let it babysit him. We have fun, but not in front of the t.v.

Well it depends on what they are watching. For e.g. if your child is watching movies with alot of killing and blood then yes it is bad but if they're watching cartoon network or something there's nothing wrong with it.

You should limit the amount of television they can see in one day. Let them pick one or two programs and then that's it. If they can find something that is educational and pertains to schoolwork, then that could be extra time.

well true, children can get easily scared by the violence on tv. but they can do so much better like after school activities like soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, football and things to do inside the house, boardgames, play with toys, read storys, make a fort.
