I highly recommend Loreal Excellence and Garnier Nutrisse. They are both gentle and what you see on the box is really what you will get.

I dye my hair dark brown - I have mid brown hair originally. I use Nice and Easy 118 is a good shade, dark and shiny and it also gives a variety of subtle tones. I wouldnt go to black - only a very few people can carry such a dramatic colour! Unless you're a goth I'd stick with dark brown!

I noticed the use of the "u" in color, so I'm assuming you're not in the US and we apparently have different hair color brands, but I do reccommend going to a beauty supply store and get a "protein filler", it will help your highlighted hair hold the new color and not fade as fast. It will probably take at least 3 colorings to totally dye the highlights (each dying being at leat 3 weeks apart

I'd say it depends on your coloring as to what will look best. You actually might want to try on a wig or two in different shades of dark brown before you make your choice.
