I think society is getting a little too soft. I don't feel that it is fair for the winners if everyone receives a trophy. My son completed his first year in tiny mite (pop warner) football this year. They didn't keep score at any of the games. Why are we trying to shield our children from the natural competitiveness that occurs. These things are called sports for a reason. By giving everyone a trophy we are discouraging children from working hard to get what they want. After awhile all the kids will have to do is show up at the field....if they want to. This whole "we don't want to damage their fragile egos" is breeding a bunch of whiny, selfish, and lazy people. I don't think parents or coaches should act like drill sergents, but I think competition is an important tool in the development of children and young adults.

well, it's little league, like 7 yr old whose parents have not told them much about life. They just lost, how do you think they would feel, horrible?! It shows that everyone is a winner, The champions win the trophy, and the losers win the example and knowing what their mistakes are. I don't think it is right that they get a trophy also, because it would make the winners feel bad, like the losers would say we lost and still got a trophy. So no it's not right, they shuld only win by having the example of learning from the team who won.

Who lied to you and told you life was fair?
Its a team sport. If a team has a winning season, every member of the team gets a trophy, even those who may have sat on the bench all season due to injury or whatever. Is that fair? Youth sports should not be about winning, but about learning teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Little league is about teaching little kids good sportsmanship, having fun and doing your best. It's not about who won or lost. Yes, it's fair that everyone gets a trophy. They all participated and tried their best.

Of course it is. This is Little League for goodness sake! These kids are playing just for the fun of it, the experience, and to learn how to play. This isn't serious scholastic, collegiate, or professional play here. It's also teaching them teamwork, and by seeing that when everyone puts forth an effort, they're all rewarded.

Yes, it's little league. They all deserve recognition for their hard work. The winners still know they won.
