A battery operated light is best, as you might get fuel on your hands and the fish dont like this much on the bait.

While parafin Tilley lanterns have been around for years and work fine they need to be preheated. This means carrying meths as well as parafin. Petrol lanterns light instantly. The one i use is a Coleman Powerhouse 295 unleaded lantern. It has two mantles (like bulbs) in it and therefore it is very bright. It can run on unleaded petrol or Coleman brand fuel. I've had mine ten years and only ever use unleaded petrol. I use it for winter night fishing and it's never let me down. Coleman products are ace!

I've got a colman. Its about 20yrs old in my view they are far Superior than a tilly. You can tilt them over and they give out a better light, just get down to your local tackle shop or camping shop .
