Matt 16:17-20 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them: they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 ¶ So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
I do believe that the church will return to these things as Jesus taught.

That is a good question. First Corinthians chapters 12 through 14 focus on the miraculous gifts of the holy spirit. God gave these to some as an indication that he was no longer using natural Israel but was now blessing the Christian “Israel of God” described in Galatians 6:16.
These gifts of the spirit were building blocks of a sort – they helped to establish the infant Christian congregation and helped it to mature to adulthood. The apostle Paul explained that after having served their purpose, these miraculous gifts would eventually stop: “Whether there are gifts of prophesying, they will be done away with; whether there are tongues, they will cease.” So we read at 1 Corinthians 13:8.
So scriptures make it clear that these gifts – including the gift of tongues - would cease to exist. When? Acts 8:18 reveals that the gifts of the spirit were received “through the laying on of the hands of the apostles.” So when the last apostle died, passing on the gifts died too. When those who had received the gifts from the apostles died, the gifts themselves would disappear. But no matter because by this time, the Christian congregation would be well established and would have spread to many lands.

Many try to use the Word to justify their personal doubts and fears. But
it cannot be done, because the Word is about overcoming doubt and fear.
The Gifts of the Spirit are more important today than ever!
Knowledge was "veiled" in the past. Because if we knew how powerful we are as physical/spiritual beings. Along with human nature to be jealous, envious, and want revenge. We would have destroyed ourselves by now!
But what we accept, and how we use the knowledge. Will determine our
very survival in the days ahead!

All believers are given spiritual gifts that enable them to do the work that God has prepared for them to do. The gifts are as unique as the individual that recieves it. So some gifts are no longer available and some have not yet been given. And all the gifts are for the strengthening of the body of Christ. So the best thing to do is find out what your gift is, and then use it to do the work that God has for you to do. The scary part is that if we don't do the work God has for us, it won't get done.

There is nothing in the Bible to indicate either way so I believe it's an individual thing. If you have them great... It you don't have them great... I don't think it matters one way or the other...
I'm not part of any denomination. I think denominations are evil and only serve to divide the Body of Believers.

Of course they are for now. The pattern for the church was established in the book of Acts and continues today.

I am a non-believer, the only gifts I get are at Christmas, and my birthday. I believe in fact, not fiction.
