I have a two year old half chow/ half black lab and the fur around her mouth is turning white. Is there a condition that would cause this or is that just the way she is?

How old is he? What do you feed him? What type of dog is he? These would be useful information for me to know to give you a good answer :) ADD: Since he is on kibble and he is 5 years old, he probably does have some plaque issues, it is probably his saliva that is brown from the dog food making his fur brown... I always suggest Prey Model Raw if you can find cheap meat, I wouldn't use meat that people can eat for a dog, expired meat is great and there are things like chicken necks dogs can eat, this will make his teeth white and get rid of the brown stained fur...

Fur turning white around the muzzle is a normal part of the aging proces. Some dogs gray sooner than others.

All good answers here. I would also say that as the weather turns colder, they are getting thicker coats in and it only appear that they are getting old. I have 3 dachshunds and noticed yesterday how much grayer the older 2 are. And they are 6 and 9. New coats=more white hair.

Each year of a canine's life is equivalent to approximately 7 to 8 years of a human's life. So 2 years (canine life) is approximately equal to nearly 16 years of human life. Canines age about 7 to 8 times faster than humans.

Just like people, dogs get gray hair only faster.
If your concerned about your dog take her to the vet for a checkup.
Good luck.
