It came from the name María del Sol which means Mary of the Sun ( like Maria de la Cruz -Mary of the Cross- and its short being Marycruz ) and then It became a name by itself but it still means María del Sol not mar y sol in Latin American catholic countries women used to be named first as María for Mary the mother of Jesus and men José (Pepe) for Joseph the husband of Mary that is why in Latin American countries there are a lot of Marias and Josés .

Don't know "Marisol". However, "Mar y Sol", three words, pronounced the same, means "Sea and Sun".

Mikenzie could not be a Spanish name. There is no "k" in the Spanish alphabet. It only appears in words borrowed from other languages.
EDIT:

Dear unbelievers: There is no "K" in the SPANISH alphabet, so any name (or word) with a "K" could not be of Spanish origin. That's not to say it is not used in Spain or SA. But it is used ONLY for words borrowed from another language. Go to your dictionaries, look under "K", and see which words you think are native Spanish.

Marisol is a name in Spanish, but I think it has no translation to English

It's a combination of "Maria" (Mary) and "sol" (sun), rather like the English "marigold".

There's not much sun in Scotland, where your sister's real name comes from!

i doubt Mikenzie has a spanish interpretation, unless you go to the root of Mckenzie and find out what ROOT word is. then maybe she is using that..
