It depends on what kind of bird. Perching birds, like Cardinals and Chickadees, will find shelter of some type to ride it out. I had a friend who lives on the coast that had birds lined up shoulder to shoulder under her eaves on the side of the house facing away from the wind. Sea birds will ride it out, flying in front of the storm. Because of this they will end up far inland sometimes. There are records of birds that are normally only found far out at sea here in San Antonio (130 miles from the coast) on some of our lakes after hurricanes. When I lived in Dallas, (5 hours from the coast) we had Magnificent Frigate Birds seen over a lake after a tropical storm. I have to admit, as a birder, I get a little excited when a storm hits the coast because of the possibilities.

I'm sure they head for higher ground. I live in Tennessee and after one of the big hurricanes a couple years ago we had seagulls. They weren't here before that. We also got a pelican that could be seen at a local lake...it lived there for a whole summer and then disappeared. SO! I guess they can go anywhere.

while birds stumble on an coming near typhoon, quite interior the fall while they don't have a nest or infants to guard, they'd severe-tail it out of the typhoon’s path. good-flying birds fly earlier than the typhoon, carried with the aid of the winds on the vanguard of the gadget. different birds do not bypass too a good distance, looking any variety of defend out of the wind, hail and rain.

someplace safe and protected. Animals have a sense about this and unlike humans who are stuck in highways in cars etc. they can travel fast over a lot of area.
