I've had a stomachache the past 2 days (yes, on thanksgiving day), and the only common denominator in what I had to eat was a bowl of cheerios with 2% milk. Dad says that I've "grown out" of milk, but this is the first time I've had a problem. Also, I've had cottage cheese and parmesan and had no problems. Any ideas?

The best way to find out, is to eliminate all dairy products from your diet for 2 weeks. If you have no problems, slowly intruduce some dairy products (not all), back into your diet. Start by adding cheese that is cooked, like in a casserole. Cooked dairy products are sometimes easier to digest than a glass of milk or milk in cereal. Every couple days, if you have no problems, reintruduce another dairy product, than another. The best way, is the food diary way. Keep track of everything you eat & drink. In the long run, you'll be glad you did.

I suggest waiting a couple days between introducing other dairy products because it can take 48 hours, sometimes, to rid the body of food products, entirely depending on the amount of tolerance/intolerence. Take your time.

You did not say, but do you have diarrhea as well? Or just GI upset? Lactose intolerence is commonly (but not always), followed by diarrhea.

Most people have varying degrees of allergy to the protein in milk. If you are white, you probably can digest the sugar in milk. If you aren't than you probably can't (statistically speaking). Lactaid will solve the problem with lactose intolerance (gas is the easiest way to tell if you have this as bacteria digest the sugars your stomach cannot). Allergies are harder to pin down. Typically, a person gets an upset stomach a day or two after eating a moderate to large amount of milk protein. However, more serious reactions are not unknown.

I used to be able to drink milk all the time and I get the same thing now. Upset stomic when I have raw milk..doesn't affect me in cooked foods....but I like a glass of milk and a bowl of cereal now and then so I just put up with it.
