You can go to an allergist, referred by your primary care physician if your insurance allows. They will subject you to hundreds of dollars worth of tests and come up with a list of things that you are allergic to.

I have been battling allergies for years, was on a prescription drug for 3 years until the drug made me sick. I use good old fashioned, over the counter, sudafed (store brand). If my eyes start itching I'll also take benadryl before bed.

You might want to try some basic over the counter stuff before subjecting yourself to the doctors tortures, errr tests.

I'm curious about why at the age of six, your mother, or whoever was responsible for you, did not take you to a doctor and try to get this condition diagnosed and dealt with. There might be some sort of allergy at work here, but I'm not so sure, especially when you say things actually seem better in summer. Anyway I suggest you go to Yahoo Search and type in "Extreme Runny Nose" You'll pull up, among other stuff, a site under the heading "Runny nose - Wrong Diagnosis.com" Click on this and it will take you to a place that'll keep you reading awhile. You may well be able to match one of the many "causes of runny nose" to your own personal experience. The site covers a heap of aspects including advice about which kind of doctor would be best to consult in your particular case. Good luck.

You need to see an allergist. It sounds like "seasonal allergies" to me. Probably an allergy to dust (most common). Since it only happens in the winter when the house is closed up.

An allergist will want you to undergo a series of tests (about 100) to determine specific allergies & then 'probably' have you take a series of allergy shots in an attempt to build up an immunity to the allergy. No guarantees that the shots will help.

I don't usually "advocate" specific drugs, but I have the same problem with my nose. My MD put me on Flonase nasal spray after years of nasal drainage & sinus infections. Most Dr's carry samples of this spray. Next time you go in, tell the Dr a "friend" with the same problem, (me), told you about Flonase. Ask him if you can try a sample of it. You'll be glad you did. And I BET you get your free sample. Try it.

An ENT Dr is not an allergist & would not be able to help your problem. An allergist deals with allergies. You can take OTC meds but they are also, costly. I 'sincerely hope', you will try the spray rather than the pills. If you decide to go with OTC meds, get something with an antihistamine & a nasal decongestant in it.

I hate to break this to you but welcome to the club. Most people have runny noses in the winter time. If you are that concerned about it and want to see a specialist then you need to go to a ENT (ear, nose, and throat). BUT you need to check with your insurance company to find out if you require referral for them to pay. If so then go to your primary care doctor and request to see a ENT and get your referral.

You need to see an ENT otherwise known as an ear, nose & throat specialist. I hope you find a solution to your problem.
