i just moved into a house with a laminate floor already laid. its an oak color at the moment and as yet it has no trim. I really want to change the color to a darker color like mahogany. are there any products available that can be painted on to the floor and will produce a hardwearing finish?

if it is a laminate floor i.e. synthetic wood then you can buy laminate floor varnish from a hardware or diy store such as B&Q, however it is not hard wearing and you need a primmer. You are at risk of damaging the floors too. It is probably going to be more cost effective to relay the floor in the wood that you want, otherwise you will be forever touching it up. I hope this helps. x

Painting isnt possible on laminated floors. However if it had a natural wood finish it can be warnished to a darker colour.

If you say laminate, it sounds like the floor is not made of wood. Thus pressed carton with a picture it really is. You cannot change this because you cannot treat like wood.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do. But, laminate flooring is so cheap now, and it can be done in a week-end. You can put the new floor right over.

no. if you try to make it look darker it will look tacky and messy. only way is to rip it up and put down the colour you want.

It's the same as a counter top. if you do it your biggest worry is a scratch.
