Every time somone sees me put bananas in my fridge I get a lecture about it being the wrong thing to do! I have done it for years and have no intention of stopping! I easily prefer under ripe as opposed to over ripe bananas, and unless putting them in the fridge is going to poison me, what's the issue with it? Thanks.

Leave them there long enough and you'll get frost-bitten black mush

OK, there was an old advertising jingle that went something like this:

"I'm Chiquita Banana, and I'm here to say
Bananas have to ripen in a certain way."

Something, something, and it ended,

"So you should never put ba -naaaa-nas
In the refrigerator.
No-no-no-no!"

So, if the Chiquita banana people said don't put them in the fridge, people listened!

I believe they go black quicker in the fridge, and the chilling may affect the flavor (you aren't supposed to put tomatoes in the fridge, either).

They freeze really well, though. Peel, wrap in some plastic wrap, place in a freezer bag, then use as smoothies when desired. My daughter also loves straight frozen bananas (-:.

Really, though, if you prefer them in the fridge, go for it. It won't poison you.

You should not put bananas in the fridge becuse they will go brown very quick and also mushy, you may freeze them though but they still do not taste the same as fresh but if you want a nice tasting banana leave it at room temprature then when you fancy a banana put it in the fridge for about 5 - 10 minutes,
HAPPY BANANA EATING

MMMMMMM BANANAS

Bananas are reccommended for a cool, dry place, but fridges aren't dry, so they'll go brown. Put them on top of the fridge.

Why do you have to have everything explained to you ? Just stop putting the damned things in the fridge, OK ! You should also not put bananas in the fruit bowl with other fruits because they give off a gas that spoils other fruit.

They turn at the same rate in or out of fridge but in the end we are trying to fight or slow down the bacteria. Refrigeration has been proven successful in holding off bacterial growth in most foods. Less bacteria is better for me.

bananas contain a lot of sugar and will go off in the frigde very quickly. the same as putting an iced bun in the fridge the sugar solidifies.

personally i like bananas in the fridge, it stops them from ripening too quick, i hate it when you get bananas one day they are a lovely greeny yellow, not too soft, the next day theyre black. its horrid, squishy ones are too sweet and dont taste nice. keep putting them in the fridge, it wont do them any harm, its just a preference on if you like them really ripe or not

I'm guessing it will just make them go off alot quicker and not to mention a waste of money if you don't eat them in time, but hey there your bananas so you do what you like, if you like them cold then carry on, who's gonna stop you?
