A hopeless romantic: usually a male who tries to do sweet charming considerate things yet either flubs it up or still fails to attract a female who will be committed or intimate, as in hopeless to find a mate, yet continually trying to be romantic.

A hopeless romantic is someone who isn't to romantic, and sometimes where the relationship is staginated, which means you're not going anywhere, not improving. A helplessly romantic is where you are a natural, i think.

basically, it means that you believe in the ideal that love conquers all and an 'everything will work out in the end' outlook on life to the exclusion of everything else. Depending on the context, it could be applied in an endearing way or a cynical way.

its like when you are so in love but that person doesnt even know you exist or is in a relationship, but you just cant stop thinking about them! *sigh* basically, its torture
