I am currently using vista rc1 on my laptop, it has lots of visual improvements and runs very smooth. big improvement over the beta version. any way should you install? give it a go you wont know untill you try it. is it worth it? hmm not really!
ps back up your data first.

I will assume that the copy of Vista yoou have is an evaluation copy. If that is the case, then no it is not worth installing. Rather than installing anything over your XP, you should get a second hard drive and install a clean copy to play with. This will leave your XP installation intact and validated should you decide that Vista or any other OS is not right for you. As for the differences, there are a few security related changes, but keep this in mind. Vista is designed to run on the x64 platform, and does not run well or at all on most older systems. At Microsoft you can download a small program to see if your computer passes the requirements prior to installation. As well, there are very few supported hardware drivers available at this time for Vista. Hope this helps

first thing mate....remember "vista"is still a beta so its not as stable as xp ,however if you have the rtm version this is the final beta version(build 6000)
also there are very little drivers avalible for vista, the only ones i have seen are the display drivers from nvidia and a.t.i,and these are also beta drivers
i have vista installed on a second machine and i have found it to be quite good for a beta, very few bugs and even if you have problems vista will look for a solution on-line.
on the good side, there are a few anti-virus programs that are vista compatible,to see these go to the security center in vista and click the link for anti-virus software, also i have tried spybot and this works fine in vista
service pack 2 has been discarded in vista for a much improved security center including windows defender and parental controls
if you have a copy of xp to re-install if you dont like vista i would say go ahead, the only point i will make if you are a keen gamer, dont bother as the direct x and display drivers are not fully finished for vista, you may have problems playing a few games
tip:wait a while and buy a cheap 40gb hard drive and install vista on a second drive(slave drive),this way you can keep your xp and use a dual boot manger,i did this and at the start of vista set up you get the option of were to install vista,i put it in a second drive and when i boot up my p.c i get the choice of either xp or windows vista
any problems ...let me know

My £450 Advent Laptop is Vista Ready and comes with XP Media Edition. That means that its no more expensive than any other OS. If you have XP Media Edition and it's fully upto date, you can install a vist shell. That way, other than a few bells and whistles the answer is very little.

Well, I'm wondering where you got a copy of Windows Vista, since the Beta version has been discontinued, and the full version won't be released until 2007. Those who have tried the Beta version could tell you. Vista will have problems and bugs, all new operating systems do, so you take your chances. If you have a pirated copy, good luck, you can't get it registered.

You are going to need a lot of power and expensive hardware to run it at its best. Overheads on Vista are LARGE. I would stick to XP if I were you, despite the improved graphical and security aspects.
