I've just purchased some and I must use them before Dec 08. I didn't know water could go off!

You should always get the fresh stuff!! None of that frozen crap!!

I assume that you are talking about bags of ice from the store.

Over time the ice cubes will encounter temperature changes resulting in some melting and some dehydration. Also, ice cubes can absorb odors from nearby foods.

Fresh ice is closer to the advertised weight and less likely to have absorbed any odors.

Water does go off. It goes stagnant like in a pond. It loses all it's oxygen and tastes "off". My friend once left a glass of water next to her bed for weeks and then drank it (yuck!) she said it was the most evil thing she'd ever tasted (she was 14 at the time!)

It's a legal requirement in UK for any kind of foodstuff or drink.

5 million-year-old rock salt has a best before date on it.

i dint even knw u could buy ice cubes lol :D and water dont go off. prob food rules and regulations.

same reason bottled water has! would you want to drink water that has been sat there for ten years! yuk, probably doesnt go off, im not sure, just wouldnt like the thought of it

Take them back to the store and ask for a refund as you intentially bought them for your christmas party and see what happens :)
