Its a recessive gene so you don't get a whole litter by trying; its a fluke if you get one.

I don't know if this website will help you:
http://homepage.usask.ca/~schmutz/dogcolors.html
It's about the genetics of coat colour & type in dogs.
I always understood that blue was a recessive gene - you need to have two recessive genes (one from both parents) to show the colour - & I would have thought that if you bred two blue dogs together then the chances were very high that you would have blue puppies.
Otherwise, you'd have to look to breed together two dogs, both of which had one blue parent - then the odds would be about 50% of having blue puppies in the litter.
But I don't really understand about brindle coats & patching ... it's much easier to work out in cats! lol.

the blue colour is from a recessive gene, even if you breed 2 blue dogs together you are not guaranteed blue puppies. try breeding brindle or black to red. you should only breed to improve the breed standard, please do not breed your dog just for profit or "cute puppies" the rescue centres are full of unwanted dogs and loads of staffs already

Go to your local shelter and adopt a blue pit bull. They are just another color of pit bulls, and they are filling shelters by the thousands. Most pit bulls are euthanized because they can't find homes for them. Most of the pits in shelters are sweet and loving dogs that just had crummy owners. Save a life- don't breed!!! The shelter will have had the dog vaccinated, treated for illnesses, and most likely spayed/neutered which saves you a LOT of money.

The Blue Staffy is rare and like the others have said it is the luck of the draw. However its also in the breeding.Look along your dogs pedigree. Then visit Staffy websites alot of people show their staffies off in this way. Alot of breeders are on these websits as well. Check the stud dogs pedigree and then the grand sire and dams. My female is a Red with a black face and from the rocillio lines. You need to look for champion blood lines as well. Mainly Staffy owners tend to call their dogs by colour my dog Staffie is a pied and I called him The Parks Pied Piper....its sometimes in the name. DONT go and get a pit bull for gods sake. Stick with Staffies. PLEASE.

Blue pit bulls are about as rare as people being born with a left foot. Go adopt one, save a life, feel good about yourself, and don't worry about how it's coat got that color. It just did. It's called genetics.
