My cousin's had a break up with his girlfriend. And he's become very sorta depressed. He doesn't feel like doing anything. I'm really worried about him. He knows he should be diverting his attention, but when he tries, he isn't able to concentrate. I am planning to write him a mail... What advice should i give him?

This cousin of mine...He isn't really the partying type..He is a social drinker...but he doesn't smoke or anything...Basically, he's extremelly nice! Don't give like nonsensical advice like tell him to go pick up some girl from the bar...

This guy has friends? A buddy's job is to get you out of the house and do things to get your mind off problems.

This guy needs to surround himself with a group of guys who will not let you wallow in misery, even if it requires a drunken game of bowling.

As for a letter, I don't think it will help. This guy needs a support group that will not allow him to be a downer.

Back in my 20's when I was in the Marines, when a guy got his heart kicked in, he got dragged to a topless bar and curb tripping drunk. It's hard to feel sorry for ones self whilst a pair of breasts are sandwiching ones head....

You should advise him to know, that its happened, and it will pass. Tomorrow will be a new day. And although he is sad now, as the days pass the sadness will strat to subside.

Don't suggest he "lighten up", or something like that. He is grieveing, so let him do that. Just let him know you are there for him if he needs you, and be sincere about it.

My brother went through this and it was horrible. He was suicidal, it was scary. Sometimes you can just be there...and not say too much. I would not try to fix him up just yet...just remind him there was a time before her. And GOd has big plans for him. He just has to get the right girl ready.

Get him a nice pet if he's not going to patch up with his girl friend.
