There is nothing to prevent it, because they do not know what causes it. A theory is we are all born with cancer cells, but something triggers them to grow. Researchers are working hard to find the answers. Example: My nephew 12 months old goes to his pediatrician for his one year check up- the baby was breast feed and only introduced to foods within the last three months. Md notices lump in abdomen-sends my sister to hospital the next day for ultrasound. Diagnosis Wilm's tumor, a very rapid growing tumor inside the kidney that has to be removed and treated with Chemo for a year. How do you explain children with cancer, they haven't even begone life and they have to fight for it. Cancer is a mystery and they need money for research. My sisters sons MD are looking into our water supplies. You can try a healthy lifestyle, but the air you breath is polluted, water, etc. only our Maker knows the answers.

The most effective way to prevent contracting the most common cancers is to not use tobacco products. Beyond that, eating a balanced diet and staying fit are good defense. Some cancers are a product of genetics, though, and there's not a lot you can do other than be alert to any early signs so you can get timely treatment...

There are more than 100 types of cancers; any part of the body can be affected.
In 2005, 7.6 million people died of cancer - 13% of the 58 million deaths worldwide.
More than 70% of all cancer deaths occur in low and middle income countries.
Worldwide, the 5 most common types of cancer that kill men are (in order of frequency): lung, stomach, liver, colorectal and oesophagus
Worldwide, the 5 most common types of cancer that kill women are (in the order of frequency): breast, lung, stomach, colorectal and cervical
Tobacco use is the single largest preventable cause of cancer in the world.
One fifth of all cancers worldwide are caused by a chronic infection, for example human papillomavirus (HPV) causes cervical cancer and hepatitis B virus (HBV) causes liver cancer.
A third of cancers could be cured if detected early and treated adequately.
All patients in need of pain relief could be helped if current knowledge about pain control and palliative care were applied.
40% of cancer could be prevented, mainly by not using tobacco, having a healthy diet, being physically active and preventing infections that may cause cancer.

in some people, cancer is synonymous to death. it is a disease which frightens almost everybody. No definite cure yet is being discovered. They can be acquired genetically, but there are some ways to prevent it.
Stay away from carcinogens (grilled foods like barbecues, raw foods, too much sun, radiation, chemicals, and other stuff which can cause cell mutation).
Eat foods that prevent cancer (pineapple, brocolli, tomato, soya products...)
Keep your immune system strong. There are cells in our body that kill mutant cells.
Have a positive and happy disposition!

Trying to eat right like fresh vegetables. Also taking supplements help, Vitamin E and C are the antioxidant vitamins. They work as a team to provide powerful antioxidant protection against the ravages of free radicals; Free radicals may be a major factor in ageing and can contribute to heart disease, cancer, arthritis, hepatitis and many other diseases. Vit. E & C should be at the top of your supplement list.
Live longer and stronger, good luck.

the best way to prevent cancer is to stay away from processed
foods. all these foods made with chemicals are killing people.

If you want to prevent cancer, you should go on a vegan and calorie restriction diet - in addition to not smoking and staying active and fit. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegan#Health and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calorie_restriction Major funding into research on calorie restriction is currently being sought from Congress in hopes of finding a pharmaceutical intervention to mimic calorie restriction in humans in order to provide insulation from age-related diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's, etc., to produce what is being called "the longevity dividend." See http://www.agingresearch.org/longevitydividend/overview.cfm and http://www.agingresearch.org/longevitydividend/ScientistArticle.pdf

CANCER IS THE RESULT OF DAMAGED DNA.
OUR CELLS COME EQUIPED WITH 'PROOF-READING' PROTEINS THAT CHECK THE DNA CODE FOR ERRORS AND CORRECT THEM BEFORE ALLOWING NEW CELLS TO GROW. UNFORTUNATELY, THE PROTEINS THAT CHECK FOR AND CORRECT ERRORS ARE MADE FROM THE SAME DNA THAT IS BEING CHECKED...THAT IS TO SAY THAT IF THE SECTION OF DNA RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING THESE PROTEINS GETS DAMAGED, THEN THE REPAIR SYSTEM ITSELF BECOMES DAMAGED. THAT ALLOWS THE ERROR TO BE PASSED ON TO FUTURE GENERATIONS OF CELLS IN OUR BODIES.
BUILD UP ENOUGH MUTATIONS AND THE CELLS BEGIN TO MULTIPLY IN AN UNCONTROLLED FASHION. BY THIS POINT, EVEN THE FAILSAFE MECHANISMS WHICH CAUSE DAMAGED CELLS TO 'COMMIT SUICIDE' ARE BROKEN SO THAT THE OFFENDING CELLS ARE INDESTRUCTIBLE. THIS IMBALANCE OF GROWTH IS WHAT CAUSES A TUMOUR...THE DAMAGED CELLS GROW FASTER AND MORE UNCONTROLLABLY THAN THE SURROUNDING CELLS FORMING A DISTINCT MASS.
EVENTUALLY, CELLS FRAGMENT FROM THIS MASS, 'THE TUMOUR' AND VIA DIRECT INVASION, OR THROUGH THE BLOOD SUPPLY OR LYMPHATICS, SPREAD TO DISTANT SITES SUCH AS THE LIVER OR THE BRAIN, OR LYMPH NODES, AND THESE DEVELOP AND GROW INTO 'METASTASES' OR 'SECONDARIES'.
AGENTS THAT DAMAGE DNA INCLUDE RADIATION (INCLUDING HOSPITAL X-RAYS) AND CHEMICALS CALLED 'FREE RADICALS' THAT NATURALLY OCCUR IN OUR BODY AS A RESULT OF THE CHEMICAL REACTIONS WITH OXYGEN. CIGARETTE SMOKE CONTAINS MULTIPLE CHEMICALS, SOME RADIOACTIVE, OTHERS JUST HIGHLY CHEMICALLY REACTIVE AND THEY DAMAGE OUR DNA. THE KEY TO PREVENTING CANCER IS TO ENSURE THAT YOU EAT PLENTY OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES IN YOUR DIET AS THESE CONTAIN ANTI-OXIDANTS THAT NEUTRALISE THE 'FREE RADICALS' AND HIGHLY ACTIVE OXYGEN MOLECULES. THE REST OF IT IS ABOUT AVOIDING EXPOSURE TO CAUSATIVE AGENTS SUCH AS CIGARETTES, ASBESTOS, SILICA AND EVEN PEOPLE WHO WORK IN THE RUUBER-MAKING INDUSTRY HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO HAVE A HIGHER RISK OF DEVELOPING BLADDER CANCER (ITS NOT THE RUBBER ITSELF, BUT SOME OF THE CHEMICALS USED IN THE PROCESS THAT CAUSE THE INCREASED RISK).
IN ESSENCE, THE LONGER WE LIVE, THE MORE EXPOSURE WE HAVE TO DNA-DAMAGING AGENTS, SO THE RISK OF CANCER IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE GREATER AS WE GET OLDER. JUST HOW FAST WE DEVELOP THE DAMAGE DETERMINES HOW OLD OR YOUNG WE ARE WHEN THE CANCER BEGINS TO DEVELOP.
