Basically what i got from the article is this guy got sent to iraq and was suddenly anti war (it's funny how being in the direct line of fire will do that to a person)....but in my opinion is when you join the military you sign away your right to say "i'm not going"...i am not anti war, i happen to think the one we are in currently is kinda stupid, but in general i am not anti war...
what are your thoughts? are his actions justified or is he being crybaby?
i vote for crybaby

HE is a Cry Baby !!! HE was trained to be a COMBAT Engineer. Hmmm yet he isnt trained to go out on COmbat Patrols ?? He was trained to be a Soldier first and a Combat Engineer second. Seems to me he is scared. Of course the Military is going to send him back to his original unit. That is where his Commander is. Commanders deal with their Soldiers. That is why they are Commanders

I guess in combat nothing is quite so simple. You ever heard of My Lai? Would you judge same way a guy who refused to kill women and children? Or wounded enemy soldiers or... The line seems to be different to all individuals. The army can not let him get off the hook for obvious reasons, and for this guy defending his country is one thing and stealing oil from Iraq is another. You ought to read some statistics about the Iraqi war, and then evaluate the love and concern the U.S shows towards its troops. It is a tad discouraging. Besides, only live combatants can judge him. If you have not witnessed it, you really haven't got a vote to "hang" him. I think there's been enough damage already.

I agree with the whole 'he signed up for it, he knew what he was getting into' saga... BUT I'm having mixed feelings about him actually being along side with the rest of our soldiers. Having someone like this guy who doesn't want to be involved in the war in a line of fire just put tons of scary thoughts racing through my brain. He is going to put the others in harms way.

I think every american soldier has a duty to refuse to obey immoral commands. That being said the military has a right to throw you in jail if refuse to obey a lawful order, or in some cases shoot you on the spot.

The military has all kinds. Although I think you're right if you are anti-war, and don't want to be in combat why did you join the military. Why don't you become a medic, they aren't expected to shoot anybody and don't have to. But that doesn't make them bullet proof either.

The military's job is to kill people and break things. No more and no less. You know that going in, and any reasonable idiot would be stupid NOT to realize that you may com into harm's way. Wether you are a Marine hitting the beaches, a sailor with a carrier battle group, a soldier in a tank battalion, or an airman in the rear where the aircraft are.

As the old saying goes "Killing is my business, and business is good!", it also goes both ways.

The military is all fun and games, right up until the moment real bullets zing past you. Then all of a sudden everyone's attitude toward the military and war does a metamorphose, it's only natural.
Remember the song "Please Mister Custer"???
IMHO of course,,,, but this is an individual that was allowed to "skate" through BMT and advanced military training, and because of that lacks the mental discipline necessary to deal with being in a combat zone.

You notice a lot of that here, by "that" I'm referring to lets take over the whole place, shoot all the bad guys and so on. These are for the most part people that have watched a bunch of crap on TV and then find out what it's really like to see the guy next to you get half blown apart leaving you to wake up to the real world and ask WTF am I doing here.
I don't think crybaby is a good word but I don't have a good word to replace it with. It's not good for him or the people around him.

I vote with you. I agree that this war is stupid, but too many people sign up for the military as a "job" or for the colloege benefits, but forget that the entire point of the military is to go to war as ORDERED, not as chosen.

I agree with you. He signed up in the military so he knew there was a chance of going to Iraq. It looks like he just wanted the benefits but doesnt want to work for them.
