Just an update, I have been trying for a year now and I can not get him to do it, we have a pee pee song, I have given him suckers for a reward. He knows how to, he just doesn't want to.

Sometimes the more you push the issue the more he will become reluctant to want to use the potty. If you have other siblings that are older and use the toilet you can have them go and tell your son to do what big brother is doing and you can be a big boy like him. I have a two yr. old little girl and we are training her now but, we had to stop for a week because of putting her on the potty every half hour to hour and she would push to get the urine out and she wound up with a bladder infection so just be careful of that. Maybe he isn't ready and if you push the issue to mush when he isn't ready it will talk longer so,maybe you could stop for a week and tell him that you'll try again in a week but he has to be a big boy and go like the big boys.

If you have waited until he is three years old to try to potty train don't expect him to want to. He has done it one way all this time so now you are asking him to do something different which when you think about it isn't normal.
He is used to going when he needs to go not even think about it so this is a big change.
Aw all go through this and it will happen. You just have to be persistent. Never let up.
What you could do is every few hours take him in and sit him down and tell him to potty. Make him sit there for reasonable amount of time and then give it up. If he should do it then praise him the best you can. He should be made to feel this is a really good thing he has done and not to fear it.
It is hard but you can do it.

I am going through the same thing with a three year old. He goes number 2 on the potty but not number 1. Some days he doesn't have an accident all day and others he pees his pants time after time. We started rewarding him with M & M's and that worked for a while but not anymore. If I take him out in public, he doesn't have any accidents but at home he is impossible. I am at my wits end too.
Maybe the M & M's will work for you. He got 2 for going number 1 and 4 for going number 2. Good Luck.

My son just turned 2. Each time he uses the potty, or lets me know that he has to go, he gets a high five and a sticker on a chart. He knows that when the chart is full, he will get a prize. Since he likes to go to Chuck E. Cheese's, that is the incentive I am using right now. It doesn't always work, but some days are better than others.

Some kids just don't like the idea of stuff leaving their body. This is crazy but , if it's a boy try having him aim at cheerios. If it's a girl, give her m&m's. Or just let them wear big kids underwear and sit in it for a little while. Sitting in cold pee sucks and after a time they know what they like and don't ! Also....stop making such a big deal. Start telling them they are NOT ALLOWED to use the big potty....reverse psychology. Good luck.

What specifically have you tried? Do you have a reward system in place for every time s/he goes potty? If not, make one. You can try to make a reward system w/his or her favorite type of stickers.
Also, I found that the video "Elmo's Potty Time" got my little one wanting to use the potty more. I brought the potty out when I put in the video.
I hope things work out for you!

Our son is 4 and he will use the potty for peeing, but he refuses for pooping. We would give him "potty prizes"---matchbox cars, favorite candy, Thomas the Tank Engine Trading cards--just whatever he was interested in. It worked for peeing, but he couldn't care less about the other. I'd like any suggestions, too........

Have you tried the "It's potty time" videos? They come with a little doll and a potty so the child can pretend they're making the doll use the potty.
