I got my boys to do it this way... When teaching them stay, lighty push down on their rump while saying the command "sit" after they have sat give them a small treat. (Milk bone has a really good treat for training, it is small and able to bee eatten in one bite) Continue this until the pup has figured out that he needs to sit when you tell him too.. On the "give me paw" Do it in the same fashion, grab their paw and give it a shake motion while you are saying "Give me paw" always give a treat even if they dont do it on the command. Same thing for "Lay down or down" after the pup has learned to sit, tell him to lay down, slightly push downward on his shoulder blades. Just like before, give him a treat everytime you actually get him to laydown, even if the only reason that he layed down was because you pushed him down. also with your other hand make a sign of tapping the floor. it gives him a signal that he can use to remind himself that he needs to laydown. Contine this until you get him to laydown on his own..But dont forget to have him sit before you have him laydown. - and remember Patience- his is learning, repetition is what actually helps him understand what you are saying. My boys actually sit when I go towards the treat box. And all I have to do is say give me,and two paws come up ready to shake.. Good luck.. and also remember.. you need to sound athourative, you need to make him understand that you are the boss and that he must follow your directions. You dont have to be mean to be authorative, just strong and powerful.- Good luck and happy training!!

Hello.
Im currently training my partners puppy. He is 4 nearly 5 months old. He can now sit, lay down, give paw and EVEN do high five "bless him" am now teaching him to speak and stay.
You ask HOW to do this, Let me explain in simple term.
Make sure you use puppy treats and lots of praise when he gets it right.
PAW:- Using a firm voice but not too loud to startle him say "PAW" and at the same time hold your hand out flat just under his chin. Each time you ask "paw" tap one paw and lift it slightly. Keep doing this until he realises when he does give you his paw he will be rewarded. Be patient it can take time. Even if he lifts his paw but doesnt atfirst give you it still reward him and try again. He will eventually understand wot your asking for.
DOWN:- Ive always found this one comes easier if you show him a treat and then slowly lower the treat to the floor at the same time as saying DOWN. You can also as you lower your hand, with your other hand gently pull his front legs infront of him which will bring his body down. Again be patient as at first he will get str8 back up. Just remember even if you only get HALF of what your asking reward him.
LOTS of time and patience and you both WILL get there. Do this with him atleast 3 times a day for a short period. If you feel hes getting bord, dont try and push him as he wont be interested in learning. Make it like a game xx

you make her sit, then say "paw please" and lift her leg up. My old Giant schnauzer would do the paw, then if I asked for "the other one" she would offer the other paw. With a 'down' command, place her in the sit, then lift the front paw closest to you and gentle push her shoulder so she goes sideways into a down position. Remain calm and quiet and once she is laying down, repeat the word "down" and praise her and allow her up immediately. Keep training in short periods and always when you are both calm and relaxed. Offer praise and possibly treats and it won't take long. If you are getting frustrated and impatient because she doesn't get the hang of it right away, break off the training session for a couple of hours and just have some games with her. Training should at all times be relaxed and calm. Dogs look on them as a game and are so pleased when they get it right and you are pleased with them.

Be sure that you use a firm voice for 'down' and always use the same command. Repetition is what will get through to your dog.
Same goes for 'paw'. When you ask for the paw, say the command and give time for dog to respond. If not then say the command at the same time you pick up the paw so that he/she can make the connection. You may have to do that many times but your dog will get it.
Have patience and most importantly, have fun. If you start getting frustrated, quit and come back to it later. Best of luck!

1) get treats.
2) get dog (preferably when she's a bit hungry)
3) get dog to look at you
4) say "sit" and raise your hand with the treat in it infront of her nose (so that she raises her head). As she raises her head her *** will start to lower. Push (gently) her bottom down until she's sitting and then give her the treat.
You'll have to attempt this a lots of times before she gets the idea of sitting. Only reward her when she's doing what you want. Once she's getting the idea just keep doing it until all you have to do is lift your hand infront of her nose (without a treat) and she'll sit.
5) Get dog sitting and now hold your hand out and say "paw". The dog will look at you like you're nuts, but keep saying paw with your hand out flat (palm up). The dog will still look at you bemusedly but take his paw, saying "paw" and give him a treat (saying "good dog"). Repeat lots and lots of times. At this point it's important to stop rewarding the sitting behaviour and only reward pawing behaviour.
You need to be patient and repeat lots.

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/EEBcJ
By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.
To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.

To get him to lay down.........
Sit on the floor with your legs outstretched..........move one of your feet closer to you - so that thers a gap the dog can get thru but with your feet still on the floor.
Put a treat in your hand one side of his leg, and the dog the other side. Entice the dog to go under your leg - he will obviously have to lay down to get through.........when he goes down say 'Down' and give him the treat.........repeat a couple of times.
Tips.........
Only say down the once each time, don't say "down, down, down, down" 'cos then they'll think that is the command not just a single 'down'.
Keep training to 5 minute sessions to keep the dog interested and do it a couple times a day.
Don't punish him for doing anything wrong, and stick to it, it may take a while.
The 'paw' command............
Kneel down and get him to sit in front of you.
Gently lift his paw off the ground, shake it warmly, then treat and praise him.
After doing this a couple of times, instead of lifting his paw, just touch his leg.
If he does not get it, help him by lifting his paw a small amount. Praise him regardless of whether he needed assistance or not. #
Then apply the 'Paw' command when you do it......he should get the idea, stick with it.
Hope this helps.

For "Paw" there are two ways I've taught my dogs.
One is to have a treat in your hand, the dog can smell it and knows its there - keep your fist closed and hold it out to the dog saying "Paw" untril the dog gets frustrated and lifts up their paw to paw at your hand (with the treat in). Immediately say "Good boy/girl" and give them the treat. Repeat this a few times, I taught my poodle and my collie/lab cross "Paw" and they picked up it really quickly.
If that doesn't work, try saying "Paw" and lifting their paw in your hand, then giving them the treat. This is how my collie X picked it up.
For "Down", hold a treat in your fist and lower it down on the floor, saying "down". When the dog lies down to investigate whats in your hand say "Good girl/boy" and give them the treat. Repeat until they get the hang of it.

to tech the dog down you take a bit of dog candy in your hand and make sure the dog knows you have candy in your hand, but don't let the dog eat it. you hold the candy you show down you keep your hand on the ground and eventually it will go down, you might need to push the dog a bit at first.
to teach the dog paw, you have the candy in your hand you let the dog know you have candy in your hand you say paw and take the dos paw and say GOOD BOY/GIRL!!! and give the dog the candy.
