That's the pits, isn't it? Check with a school counselor and ask if there is an aptitude test you can take. The human brain is wired in such complexity that it's not unusual for a little glitch here and there. I, for instance, appreciate music and I can tell when a singer or instrument is off the note by the tiniest amount but cannot for the life of me sing on ANY note. I also have a pattern similar to yours in math but probably not as severe. First your probelm in math is nothing you've done. There are "work arounds" and techniques that you can learn for better comprehension. Very good question.

Nothings wrong with you - some people have a knack for some subjects and completely stink at others. I was great at math but my 13 yr old daughter struggles with it and so does my 9 yr old but they both do very well in other subjects. Sounds like you'll just have to work harder at math - maybe ask for some help at school or from your parents? That is so totally normal! Nothing is wrong with you - Just keep trying!
PS some people know the material but just can't test well - maybe that's what happened??

Maybe you have a math learning disability...no, really!! I struggled with math and all my math teachers clear through high school thought I was either stupid or lazy. Finally, when I was in college, I had a math instructor who asked if I had ever been tested for a math learning disability. Of course I hadn't. she put me together with a guy who specialized in that sort of thing and he tested me. I got high scores on the test - which was confusing - but he said the thing was that I had a really good memory and could remember individual problems, but when it came to using the processes to solve a problem I couldn't because that was where the disability was. I took my math classes from this guy and got the highest grades in math that I had since grade school. If you can find a counselor that will listen to you, ask them to have you tested. Get your parents involved. It sounds like you're a bright kid and with the proper help you can overcome your math situation. Good Luck.

Can you get a tutor? If you don't quite get something in math you can get way behind. Each new process uses things already learned. Until you go back and find the concept that you missed, you will be behind.

It's not your fault. Your teachers should of caught that you were having problems and fixed it years ago. I struggled with algebra in high school. When I went to college I started over with pre-algebra. My professor was great and I finally understood it. I got A's in all my college math courses and I got a degree in Engineering.

Request a tutor, get caught up, and you will never have to stress about math again. Remember. math is a big puzzle. You have everything you need to find the answer in front of you. You just have to learn how to get there.

I have the same problem. It is like some sort of "Block!" I had to do a lot of extra credit in algebra to get a B, and that was shocking as I failed 2 tests! There are a lot of web sites that you can look into that are easy to use, some have quizzes to help too. I actually had to call my dad long distance for help as well. Is there someone at school that can help you that you feel comfortable with. I know for a fact that sometimes you can get a better understanding of it through a friend who understands it, because the teachers a lot of times show you the long way to do a problem, when actually there are much easier ways to do them.

Hope this helps and best of luck to you! I TOTALLY feel your pain!

Some people are gifted in math, some arent. You are one thats not, so it will be harder for you to pass this class..you may want to talk to your parents or teacher about getting a tutor to help you understand it a bit..Nothing is wrong with you. I had serious issues in english and history mainly because i hated those subjects. I am a math wizz and a science nut. I love those 2 classes.
Take your time and like I said, talk to your math teacher. she can probably line you up with one of her top students to help you understand it a bit better.

Good Luck and have a little faith, your gonna get thru it all. Dont be down on yourself, it is perfectly normal and nothing is wrong with you

I get mostly A's or B's in my science and math, but i did poorly in English and history, I think, just as a theory, that some people can learn math and science easier, as opposed to English and history, and visa versa. I think it is like a left and right brain thing.

Your verbal IQ is average, but your mathematical IQ is low. Either that, or you just don't study math. Most humans need to study math in order to pass math tests--unlike other subjects, where you can ace an exam just by having good memory and being logical.

I am guessing that you are probably an only child, your parents have coddled you into believing you are something more than you are, basically spoiled you or gave you everything, except for knowledge and the ability to reason mathmatical problems out in sufficient fashion.

Your reason for posting this question is an attempt to gain some form of validation from your peers, the fact that you consider internet forums part of your peer group also screams loudly that you are in serious need of not only educational assistance, but also sociological and mental assistance.

Furthermore, I suggest you spend more time with therapists and books, and less time online where your over-coddled brain will only continue to dissolve.
