If they are not physically sick... then it is a very strong sign of depression.

Kumbhakarna of the Ramayan myth slept cotinuously for six months and could be woken up only with great efforts. But he was nothing like a sick person. He straightway went from his bed to the battlefield. Bed-ridden is a term used for a sick person but it does not mean a sloth is a sick person. He may be lazy like the Kumbhakarna .But remaining most of the time in bed is not a normal behaviour and such a person should be thoroughly tested medicaly.

Depends, if they are a teenager this is completely normal, apart from being lazy their body is also doing lots of things, eg puberty etc which requires a lot of sleep. If not then it could be depression or a health problem, such as diabetes or thyroid problems. Do they not want to get out of bed or can they NOT get out of bed ?

Yes but unless assessed by a doctor it is unsure to say whether they are mentally or physically ill.
Flu will keep you in bed as well as ME and depression.
Whatever the problem is, it is not normal.
And it is not lazy.

No: It means --- this person might be
VERY I N T E L L I G E N T ! ! !
Marcel Proust spent his hole life in bed(1)... Let other people --
strong fellows --- go outside, into the cold and unfriendly life.
Sometimes it is really better to stay in bed...

They are either very sick, or they are going through a depression.
Regardless of which....take them to the doctor!
