Catholics are requested (not ordered) to boycott the movie.

The Da Vinci Code is a best selling book and a popular movie.

The Da Vinci Code is filled with lies and half truths about Christianity, the Catholic Church, and even Leonardo Da Vinci.

Many people are taking this fictional book and movie as fact and are using some of its very strange theories to attack Christianity and the Catholic Church.

Do a quick search in Yahoo Answers and you will see some of these attacks.

To find some of the lies and half truths, do a quick search of the Internet or see: http://www.jesusdecoded.com

With love in Christ.

Although a work of fiction, the book claims to be meticulously researched, and it goes to great lengths to convey the impression that it is based on fact. It even has a "fact" page at the front of the book underscoring the claim of factuality for particular ideas within the book. As a result, many readers-both Catholic and non-Catholic-are taking the book's ideas seriously.

The problem is that many of the ideas that the book promotes are anything but fact, and they go directly to the heart of the Catholic faith. For example, the book promotes these ideas:

Jesus is not God; he was only a man.
Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene.
She is to be worshiped as a goddess.
Jesus got her pregnant, and the two had a daughter.
That daughter gave rise to a prominent family line that is still present in Europe today.
The Bible was put together by a pagan Roman emperor.
Jesus was viewed as a man and not as God until the fourth century, when he was deified by the emperor Constantine.
The Gospels have been edited to support the claims of later Christians.
In the original Gospels, Mary Magdalene rather than Peter was directed to establish the Church.
There is a secret society known as the Priory of Sion that still worships Mary Magdalene as a goddess and is trying to keep the truth alive.
The Catholic Church is aware of all this and has been fighting for centuries to keep it suppressed. It often has committed murder to do so.
The Catholic Church is willing to and often has assassinated the descendents of Christ to keep his bloodline from growing.

Catholics should be concerned about the book because it not only misrepresents their Church as a murderous institution but also implies that the Christian faith itself is utterly false.

Should other Christians be concerned about the book?

Definitely. Only some of the offensive claims of The Da Vinci Code pertain directly to the Catholic Church. The remainder strike at the Christian faith itself. If the book's claims were true, then all forms of Christianity would be false (except perhaps for Gnostic/feminist versions focusing on Mary Magdalene instead of Jesus).

No one can allow you or forbid you from watching the movie or reading the book. The book/movie tells the story of two persons on their way to find something to prove christianity is fake.
You can read the book and watch the movie, but if you do, then you are helping the writer/movie creator's with their quest to spread the wrong information about christianity. You buy the book / watch the movie = encourage this behavior (you're giving money away to these people).
If you are a christian and still want to see the movie, your faith in God and His son should help you watch this movie and concieve it only as a movie, meaning it's only fictional. Not somekind of proof that Jesus isn't your savior.

Since when did the Catholic church forbid free will? If you want to go see the movie, go see it.

I thought it was ok, but nowhere near as good as the book. Audrey Tautou was excellent (as usual) but Tom Hanks was a terrible casting choice.

Don't believe it. We can see it, of course! Some priests are just overreacting, it was the same with "Harry Potter" some years ago. Go and see it, although... It was not really good. The book was much better.

Depends if you would believe a movie over the bible. Are Catholics allowed to read the bible themselves or does it have to be read to them.

there would be no reason I can see that would prevent anyone from seeing it. however, each person needs to keep in mind the book and movie are FICTION not fact.

Watch it. Read the book. Both are works of fiction. Both are silly beyond belief.

A true Christian will not allow themselves to see it either. Praise the Lord!!
