Today there are media reports that violence has broken out in the Sunni part of the mainly Shi'ite Hurriya area in northwest Baghdad. These two areas are referred to as 'enclaves'.

Are we in danger of witnessing the development of 'enclaves' like these in the UK where Islamic settlers appear to be living in close proximity to each other, despite the fact that in the UK there is total freedom to buy property wherever they want?

This is an open unloaded question with the intention of generating intelligent discussion.

Oustanding question! You probably wont see many liberal viewpoints here. In response, YES. People seem to want to settle with their own racial background. There is very little real diversity and this is what most people have problems with. It is these (remember that guy having a go at John Reid) 'Muslim areas' where tension between in the indiginous population and within themselves will develop. Lets just cast our minds back to july 7th 2005. Apparently those guys were 'british'. Im sure the 52 people on those trains and buses would question that. That is merely a prelude to what could be a regular occurence. And yes it will become like baghdad. with different 'muslims' fighting amongst themselves. Meanwhile all the anglo saxons will be recreating histroy and fleeing to Australia and the USA. This is a bad time and it needs to be addressed aggresively if needs be.

Who says we all want integration?

I think that's only come about because we don't have the choice of only English people living in England, only Scots in Scotland, etc.

I we had the choice i'm sure a lot of people would prefer the vast majority of people to stay in their own country, visitors and short term workers would be acceptable.

We don't have the choice especially here in the UK where we seem to be attracting evevryone in the world so all we can hope for is they integrate rather than creating specific areas for diffrent cultures and nationalities.

Yes there is freedom, but people do tend to stick together. I, for one am for integration, but unfortunately, some people do not wish for this. Really, I am not informed enough in this issue to say much, so i think I will just mainly read the answers posted here, occasionaly commenting on someones answer

I don't think it's right to have "enclaves" as you say. I've heard about people being killed because they went into the "wrong" neighborhood, for instance in gang related incidents or innocent tourists getting lost.
No neighborhood BELONGS to anyone. Citizens should be able to travel freely anywhere in the country.

everyone doesn't say they want integration only the politically correct say this, the extremists say things like death to the unbeliever then blow people up, the fact they are both muslim and are shiite or sunni and believe almost the same thing is irrelevant to extremists they don't believe exactly the same thing so the other is the unbeliever

People live in the areas where they can buy the food they eat, the clothes they wear, where they can feel comfortable, so that is why - given the choice they tend to stick together.

It's natural for people to be where they are comfortable. It always will be.
