Humans need to believe there's something more to the world than what meets the eye. They need to believe there's something else, watching over them and controlling their destiny. God is the name we give to whatever representation we have of this supreme being. It can be the old wise man with the long beard who throws lightning bolts, like in most religions; it can be the souls of the Ancient; or the spirit of nature. The truth is God is whatever you want him to be. You make God, but then you'll get to believe HE made you.
I like to think of God as a young man with a lot of powers, He's handsome, sarcastic, dark hair, green eyes, NO beard, emo, gay, and 1m75 ^^.
I'm not kidding you know, this really is the way I see God

God is our (aka humankind's) imaginary super natural entity, representing all the goods and all the power we lack. In the humankind's mind God is the answer to unanswered questions and the ultimate hope for something good and better.
If you want "official" definitions than here is one: the supernatural being conceived as the perfect and omnipotent and omniscient originator and ruler of the universe; the object of worship in monotheistic religions

Our creator.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
.
.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

no human being can fully answer this as God is great mystery, but we can tell of Gods attributes such as Love, Mercy and Compassion because through His only Son Jesus Christ these have been revealed to the world, but what God is in His essence we cannot say.

God is the deity believed by monotheists to be the supreme reality. Often characterized as a male figure, he is believed variously to be the sole omnipotent creator, or at least the sustainer, of the universe
