LAX=Los Angeles International Airport.

And if you wondered what the X in LAX stands for it was added when a growing air travel industry required that existing airports (that had two letter codes at the time) increase their code to three letters. So the X has no meaning. It's just there so LA airport can have a 3 letter code--LAX.

The X usually means "international"

Other examples include JAX and PDX (Jacksonville, Florida and Portland Oregon respectively).
