During our youth, age birth to five mostly, our minds are making connections from the information we take in. The more times we are exposed to the same item, the stronger the connection will be. Once this connections are made they are hard to break. However, they can be broken by not using them, or a medical injury. This is why stroke victims usually need physical therapy after they have had a stroke, the connections were broken. And the older we are the more times you need to repeat, to make a new track for the connection, hence learning the skill again.
The more we teach are children early in life, the more skills they will have to take care of us in our old age. The children are the future!!!

There are things in childhood development called critical points. There are critical points for language understanding and speaking among other things. When critical points are passed, it is virtually impossible to learn these skills. That is why feral children, if found after a certain age, are never able to speak or understand language. Some very interesting studies have been conducted on feral children and they explain the importance of early childhood development. I hope this makes sense. For more info. look up feral children.
