Also which one of the above is better for surround

Front channel speaker in a surround system is primarily used for voice so 2 way is typical. 3 way may seem a little muddy depending on the frequency response of the bass speaker. Best to use 2 way for center, 3 way for front, sub for bass and cheaper 2 way for rear and side.
