Cat years?

Question

I think cat years in human years are 1 cat year-7 human years 2 cat years-14 human years etc
my friend says it is different am I right if not what are they?

Depends on the breed, moggies (mongrels have a longer life expectancy than some pedigrees (same with dogs) average of 5-7 years per human year is about right I think.

contrary to popular opinions there is not set year to year ratio for human to cat or indeed dog years. in the first year of a cats life they age the equivelent of 14-20 human years depending on the breed. and then as time goes on this does settle down into a regular 3-7 year ratio, later in the cats life. the lifestyle of the pet will also impact on the rate of aging and ulitmatly the longevity of your pet.

In my cat's vets office there is a chart to help a person estimate their cats age it go's like this for the first year your cat is about 24 years old in comparison to human years and then every year after that count 5 years per year.I hope this helps.

I think the 7 year thing relates to dogs but I have always used this theory for my cats. I dont see why it cant be the same for cats as they have about the same life span as dogs.

my cat lived until he was 20 so that made him 140 in human years is this a record it is seven years

If the average cat lives good food and medicinces, say 15 years, and humans 75, then probably about one year equals five human years.
