Hi i am 18 years old and i need to have my tonsil taken out. i am currently a college student and i have two questions..
1) how long is the recovery time i read that it takes a week or two and i have finals in 3 weeks so should i just push this off until my winter break

2) how much does the operation cost... i do not have any insurance but i think my university (rutgers u.) gave me a basic insurance plan where i am covered up to $5000. i will have to go to the health center and find out but just incase they will not cover me how much do you think the operation will be?

Be careful, as this is one of the most over-prescibed operations that doesn't need to be done a lot of the time, if not most of the time.

Get another opinion, and preferably from a trustworthy doctor who is either a naturopath or that you know leans away from cutting things out on whim.

Here is one article, but you can probably find many like it if you do a search on the web:

Hi there !
If you have decided to go ahead with the surgery, and if you have already taken a second opinion from a good surgeon, then go ahead..
But "three weeks" is too short a time to go ahead with ! I mean, if the exams are approaching in 3 weeks, I advise you not to go ahead with the suregry NOW !
Recovery varies from individual to individual and may be as short as 10 days too ! But if it is an "exam",, never, ever take the risk !

secondly, the cost, I presume you are studying in US ? then dont worry, ask for the quote from the secretary to the surgeon....
nowadays, tonsillectomy is not a costly surgery !
In our country, India, it costs between INR 10000/- to 25000/- depending upon the hospital.
better quality means better care..so more costly..

wishing you a speedy recovery post -op ..in advance,

Know the asteroid wellhead tonsil stones them for many years and it's been title not eventually.

Best decision I've ever made! I was shocked by the way of getting out the stones out. It was so easy, but more importantly, painless. I really liked the little trick he had for preventing gag reflex. He have one happy customer here.

Since you don't have much of an insurance and it could be
quite a costly an operation I would suggest looking into eHealthPlus
New Medical Program. With Patient Advocacy, they can reduce
your cost substantially.

I don't know what they charge but they don't usually take just one tonsil. Both are removed at the same time in most countries but I don't know about America. I would wait until after my finals if it was me.

If you play your cards right, you can probably get a circumcision thrown in for free. I hear hospitals are running a special on unnecessary surgeries.
