Weight gain is a really common problem with chihuahuas. I guess it's because they're so small that even a treat here and there will make them gain. I would try a high protein, low carb food...rather than low fat. Something without grains would be advisable, such as Innova Evo. A vet gave a friend of mine some advice and said to grate some carrot into their food for added bulk. A dog that size, depending on their activity level, should be eating about 1/4-1/3 cup/day. It doesn't seem like much, but it really is enough, and you can probably throw some chicken jerky in as a treat. Good luck!

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

a prescription obesity diet from the vets is the best answer.
i have many animals on this diet at work and have seen good progress of weight loss.
regular weighing around every two weeks to a month is a good idea to keep an eye on the animals weight.
stay away from all dog treats - very fattening, even the low fat ones. also bread is a bad idea. some animal get given toast in the morning - not a good idea.
veg is OK. see the vet or nurse (tech i think you call us in the US) to start a weight loss program. the diet is a complete diet containing all nutritional needs and an amount worked out especially for the animal.
diet, exercise, no treats and reg check ups are the answer.

First put here on a diet prscribed by the vet!!
Then take her for long walks at least twice a day!!
If you have kids they can bring her for walks in between!!
Stop giving her treats and chocolate and give her a chew bone as a treat in stead!! It will last longer and has harly any carbs!!

Put her on dog food for over weight dogs and don't feed her more than the bag says to feed.

Your vet can put her on a special diet that may be better for her metabolism. My aunt had this issue with her dachshund, and that is the only thing that eventually worked, along with daily walking. Maybe your little chi is just like some people: genetically overweight?

Reduce food intake..... they do have dog food that is light diet. Remove wet food if u feed it. Get a doggie treadmill... Might not be able to get her to lose weight if you are doing everything right for her. If you have your dog on a corn based dog food, it's time to move onto premium. OR BARF (Bones and Raw Foods)
