I live in Middlesex and have great reception on all freeview channels xx

I live in the East Midlands and have a Freeview unit running off a roof mounted aerial for the 'main' TV, and a portableTV in a bedroom using a Freeview unit driven by an internal loop arial. The distance betweeen the two TV systems is maybe 15 feet horizontally and around 10 feet vertically (it's a bungalow), yet the two systems are widely different in which channels they will receive. The only consistent thing is both will pull in all BBC TV channels.... but only the portable system receives all BBC and commercial digital radio channels.
So I guess the answer to your question is that you should (a) get an aerial upgrade and (b) experiment with the aerial's positioning and (c) consider some sort of signal amplifier (preferably a masthead type). These three steps should enable you to get the full (best?) reception. NB Even if your area is not yet fully covered for digital signals, I'm sure the BBC, etc., will be doing something about this very soon since they want us all to convert to digital asap. Good luck anyway.

Rubbish signal in a heavy populated London borough and we're at the top of a hill. The main aerial is aligned to a narrow 2' channel between the two tall houses opposite and so are any set top aerials. So the Crystal Palace transmitter isn't very satisfactory for us. The signal varies from set to set and whether the wind's in the right direction. 40 miles in the other direction, there's a transmitter on Bluebell Hill nr.Maidstone but we can only receive that signal on a set top aerial in the conservatory. A few doors down it's fine. It must be like this all over the country. Local conditions decreeing whether or not you can watch your tv.

I feel sorry for the elderly and families on low incomes who will be having to shell out a couple of hundred pounds on a sophisticated aerial on the roof when analogue tv is turned off and will still not necessarily be getting a decent signal. There's a list of transmitters on the internet but it's obviously not anywhere near long enough yet. Unless they intend erecting a hell of a lot more to provide an efficient service, maybe Sky is the only option.

i live in an area where we get little reception we don't even get channel 5! but my mum installed a digital aerial and now can use a freeview box so it's worth a try i think argos even do an indoor version if you don't want to pay for a new rooftop aerial as i think mum had to pay about £100.

depending on which freeview box you get depends on the quality, the area does also play a part in this. i had one and it worked fine in one room but **** in the other and the signal kept on going, try moving it about a bit if this still dnt work take it back and get another one, i'll let ya know now though if ya get a cheap one dont expect it to last to long, good invention poor quality

if you go to www.freeview.co.uk you can put your post code in and it will show you how good your reception should be. you will then be able to decide if you need to upgrade you Ariel. the indoor digital Ariel's work well. if you did buy an indoor Ariel from someone like Argos then you can take it back within 16 days and get a refund if it didn't help

The reception in Northampton is not very good. Also Channel 5 is poor.

I live in Sheffield and I get great reception. I don't know of anybody around here that has bad reception. You may need to upgrade your ariel.
