With past examples such as Jimmy Swaggert, Jim Bakker, and other lesser lights, are human beings incapable of learning anything? My own mother used to watch Jim and Tammy Bakker's TV program, and she wanted to send Jim $1,000 for a lifetime membership in the PTL resort in North Carolina, which later turned out to be a scam. I told her at the time that it was all a scam and she would lose her $1,000 if she sent it to him. Needless to say, I was proven to be correct.

People are drawn to these people because of their charisma. They don't make the connection to the other frauds because, obviously, not every person with charisma is a fraud, and the very NATURE of charisma is that you're left with a good opinion of the person.
Once people are hooked by the charisma, these teachers teach total dependence and the cycle continues.
The only hope we have of ending such things is not to end the frauds - it is to teach people that if you feel the charisma of an individual, you should be on guard because you may be manipulated. They don't think that way because that's 'too depressing and cynical' a worldview. Then they get taken and are much more cynical than we are :-/

I have noticed that many religious people have weakness of character anyway. Ive seen alot on here that have turned to religion because they have done something in the past such as been on drugs, in prison,whatever. I just think they are weak and gullible anyway,and need a crutch as they are not strong enough to get through life being responsible for themselves. They need someone or something to tell them what to do.

Because some are easily led...the simple minded are many...I make mistakes...but I know there will never come a time I send jerry falwell or billy grahm any money...and you can take that to the bank...the reason those guys have so much freakin cash is because simple folk such as your mother are taken in and submit huge amounts of coin because they say it's gods will...alot of fundamentalist churches in the US con their congregation out of 10% of their gross earnings...they show them that the bible says to do it because there is some script on tithing in it....another word for con...

It is a shame they are taken in by charlatans , thieves. 25 years ago,I was naive,I ad so much faith in God I did not know they would in His Holy Name,I watched,PTL and 700 club.I was alone with three small children who were without food and heat, I contacted 700 club asking for food for my babies and I was turned down.

tv evangelists talk a good game and people believe it.
I watch sometimes just for the show.
one guy once spent 1/2 hour preaching 1 1/2 hours begging for 52 dollars.

I agree, too many false prophets out there and too many wolfs in sheeps clothing. The Bible alone is the thruth, we should all stick to what the Bible teachess, and not what man teachess
