if you marry outside the US you have to apply to the US embassy and wait for weeks up to a year to get a Visa, once you get it you have 6 months to travel, when you enter USA you have 90 days to get married and register it, you get a 2year green card, then you have to apply again for another green card for 3 years or so, then you get passport.

It may take 5-7 years to get US passport starting your first approval of the US embassy for a visa.

Once you have your permanent resident card or "green card", you can APPLY for citizenship after three years. You have to file application forms, pass the test and interview. Then, you can take the oath if you get approved.

go to www.uscis.gov in the old days you could be automatically a us citizen. not so anymore.

if you marry for citizenship now you must stay married for 7 yrs. or bye bye citizenship.
